Hard as it may be for some people to believe, Prayuth and Prawit were much more careful and strategic in their thinking and especially in their actions. Whenever there was a move toward China, it was balanced with a turn towards the US and Europe. Many of us said before and right after the election that PTP was Thaksin and Thaksin hates the West.

Thats how it should be. Instead of judging each other by our differences in race, religion, ethnicity and the like - if instead we are all part of one global community then I think the likelihood of wars arising for arbitrary reasons would be greatly reduced.

I suppose as usual I am out of the mainstream step. I fully support Putin, I think he is the world's leading statesman who makes Biden look like a village idiot. I think his war in Ukraine is entirely justified and when he meets his maker (if there is a maker) he'll come out just fine. The Lavrov/Putin team is exceptional, no diplomatically phrased lies just cold hard facts about the US that the propagandised west cannot understand. Ask one of your friends what are the rules od "rules based order". No one knows, they have never been discussed, agreed or published from any forum.

Then look at the back-ups. The west better hope that Putin doesn't get sick because Medvedev will finish the war in two days (OK a bit shorter that Donald Trump will???????). This could be quite clever diplomacy by the Thais, if amoral.

Srettha probably knows Putin is highly unlikely to accept the invitation. The US would put enormous pressure on the Thai government if Putin actually set foot on Thai soil, to arrest him. Putin knows he is only safe visiting China and North Korea.

The Thais did some fence-sitting in WWII, this is another example.

And the USA on the other hand are arming and financing other "dictatorships". So it's a balance. Who cares if Russia deals with Thailand ? What the majority here are rightfully worried about is the tax changes next year and if long stay tourist visas will be given with less hassle to quality european tourists (90 day visa exempt).  Buying Russian oil will lower inflation in Thailand and that's what matters.

At the start of the Pacific War, the Japanese Empire pressured the Thai government to allow the passage of Japanese troops to invade British-held Malaya and Burma.

Interesting scenarios Putin visiting and an all out fiasco for Thailand. My guess, Putin says thank you for the invite (but it will not take place).
