A 25 year old Swedish woman, Felicia Cedergren, who was in coma after a motorcycle accident on Koh Samui on 8 October 2023, was last night, 19 October 2023 evacuated back to Sweden. More than four thousand people had helped fund the special medical evacuation flight with a total donation of  735.000 SEK (2.44M Baht) via a Go-Fund-Me page.

 

“Now the plane leaves Koh Samui at 19.15 and lands just one hour later. Then the plane leaves Bangkok for Sweden at 00 local time and lands at 0700 Swedish time on 10 October,” wrote Felicia’s mother Susanna Cedergren on the Go Fund Me page, which she had set up.

A campaign by some people in Sweden, claimed a few days into the collection that the whole thing was fake. There never was an accident and the woman was not hospitalized.

 

The family just wanted to cash in on selling a pitiful story, they claimed. ScandAsia received emails blaming the media for buying the scam and help solicit money from gullible people.  Similar letters had been sent to media in Sweden.

I wonder, if the same amounts would have been donated equally fast, if the person had been a middle aged man vacationing in Thailand?

It's a suspicious story, with the hospital denying they treated her, and police didn't hear about the accident as well. Nothing about in the thai news. Did the accident happen the way they say? Fishy.

There are a lot of other "red lights" about it, which is why extra scrutiny is required. I can list some of them, she's a porn actress, with a large debt in Sweden, and her boyfriend is a fugitive from Norway, where he owes a large amount of money, and supposed to be in prison. 

 

Many people have the theory that she wasn't in a motorcycle accident, but something else happened, such as a drug overdose or a problem during plastic surgery.

I would have gladly donated the exact same amount if the circumstances were the same.. (except for their gender or age etc..) a big fat ZERO... How many times do nice generous people have to donate for these kind of m0r0ns who either do not get insurance, or let the insurance run out?

The 'GoFundMe' concept I am sure was not created to benefit for total 1d1ots abroad like this chick.  Any excess of $$ to be spent on parties?  SMH

Maybe you should have read the full OP properly.  Police and hospital confirmed everything.

this is incorrect the police checked out the story and found it wasn't a scam.

Thailand is 2nd in the world for road accidents. Samui is #1 in Thailand. If people only knew how many foreigners lose their lives on Samui. 

 

If riding a motorbike, only do so if you have many years of experience. Especially on the southern islands, where huge numbers of foreigners leave Thailand in a wooden box. Wear the best helmet you can afford. And drive like a grandmother. This applies to ex-pats too. Bring along an international drivers license. This helps you to avoid being fleeced by the local police franchisee.

 

Getting on a scooter, or a motorcycle anywhere in Thailand, much less Phuket, Phangan, Dark Tao, or Samui without a very good helmet, is like playing Russian Roulette with three or four bullets in the chamber. It is absolutely asking for problems. The degree of recklessness here is astounding. And many foreigners come here thinking "how much trouble could I get in on a little scooter, on a tropical island"? Well, the answer is alot. The amount of foreigners who are killed on the Southern islands is staggering. Most are not reported in the media. I had a friend who worked for Samui rescue for many years, and said the numbers were about 30-60 a month, on Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao. The official number is about 3 a month. Rider beware. Use as good a helmet as you can afford, and do not use these eggshells pieces of crap. They crack at the first impact, and what lies underneath them? Your skull, which is very delicate.

 

I have been riding bikes for 52 years. Without any serious accidents. A few minor ones over the years. Riding a bike here is very dangerous. If not the highest, one of the highest fatality rates in the world. And an accident here can be very costly, to your person. Just ask yourself- do I have enough problems already, without a broken skull, or smashed head, or face injury, or lost eye? I have three friends who have been in motorbike accidents on Samui within the last several years. One still cannot walk, or talk or function on her own, from a motorbike accident, where she hit her head on the pavement going only 20 kph. The other one has lost alot of his mental capacity after hitting his head. He insisted for years he would never wear a helmet. Now, he seems 15 years older. The third one is a close friend, who was hit by a sidecar, and nearly lost his leg. 11 operations later, he can walk, but with a limp, and the leg caused him constant problems, many years later.

What's wrong with having travel insurance? Having to wait for your family to set up a Go Fund Me campaign while in a coma at the other end of the world sounds rather stressful to me.

I donated online to a older Brit who had a financial problem in Thailand. No regrets.

The only motorbikes I ever ride in Thailand are the Bangkok motorbike taxis, and then it is only for short SLOW rides where it feels relatively safe(ish). One time I went from Asoke to Din Daeng on the back of a motorbike taxi doing 80kph and felt a mixture or terror and thrill the whole trip. But I would NEVER do that again.

I don't think that is disputed but whether or not she shows her tits and bits on the internet is irrelevant, it's the "large debt" assertion that he needs to justify as he was using that to claim that she (and her family) is defrauding donors.
