With its burgeoning gaming sector, Thailand is poised to become the gaming hub of the ASEAN region, according to organisers at the Thailand Game Show 2023.

 

The nation’s gaming industry, valued at 30 billion baht (US$ 822,368,400), is leading in Southeast Asia and ranks 20th globally. In addition to boasting impressive user numbers and hosting gaming competitions, Thailand is also nurturing game developers, which aligns with the government’s National Soft Power strategy.

 

During her speech at the opening of the Thailand Game Show x Wonder Festival Bangkok 2023 event, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, vice-chairperson of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, stated, “This government showed its commitment to support the gaming industry as one of 11 sectors in the national soft power strategy.” The event, running for three days, is being held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

 

Thailand has not only demonstrated its prowess in gaming through industry value but also through its performance in e-sports. The country bagged the highest number of e-sport medals among ASEAN nations at this year’s Asian Games in China, securing third place overall.

“Thailand can grow the gaming industry as people can earn enough money to make it a career,” proposed Paetongtarn. She cited the success of Home Sweet Home, a horror adventure game crafted by a Thai developer that went viral, amassing 800,000 global downloads. Paetongtarn also highlighted the potential for game-related careers, such as ad sales, event expertise, casting, and budget management, reported Bangkok Post.

the ones at the borders are sucking up thai money anyways, might as well control the flow out

Every time I go to my local Tesco or Home Pro lately the cashirers and shelf stackers are at the hub already 🤔

Gambling online shops everywhere illegal casino,s.lottery etc etc,the only thing is casino,s in thailand and the reason they are at the borders for thais that travel in they many.Now they talk about it to make it legal again I wait and see like everyone else

Thailand does have casinos, only they are owned by untouchables and therefore do not officially exist. They only make the news when they are raided because of a dispute between them.

 

The country does not have official casinos as that would damage the business of those who lurk in the shadows. Any talk of establishing legal casinos is quickly forgotten as in the recent proposal to open them in Chonburi.

Hmmmm... Thailand's burgeoning imagination more like it= hub of dreams(so many hubs such little time?)

I suspect the only people that mention hubs in this country are the shoddy little western owned clickbait online advertising websites masquerading as news outlets.

Twenty years they allocated million to built a new outdoor stadium up at the Indoor Stadium Year after year they stole the money for Beach road cash cow last Mayor claim it would be finished by year end 2022, maybe they should look into the corruption there too add it to the unfinished Condo at Bali Hi.

Yes I've not seen a new hub announced for a few weeks now and was wondering if the economy had crashed or something. Never forget under Thailand 2.0, Thailand is the hub of all things digital in ASEAN and a few other things besides that we won't mention as it may cause embarrassment (eg hub of submarines; hub of English language educmacation (sic) and others too numerous to mention).

I like games. Not the one mentioned in the OP, and probably different taste than most Thai youngsters.

On one I play pretty regularly (POE) there are quite a lot of Thais (think the game is even translated to Thai). Most of the ones I meet in-game are maybe a bit older, often passable+ English, and generally fun folk. Generous too, in-game.

 

While many Thais play games in Thai language, there's almost always some English involved anyway. On more 'international' games English gives access to info about the game, so there's extra motivation to improve. It's not all bad, IMO.

While we are becoming the land of a million hubs, how about becoming a PornHub (cool name for a business); a broker matching folk who are desperate to have sex with other people who are desperate to have sex; etc etc. There's a lot of money in sex, why not exploit it for the good of the poor in Thailand?

This is about e gaming , e sports. Fir info there us a area of the interweb called twitch.  It has more viewers watching theses big  e sport matches than i think all the other sports combined.   They have more people than like 5 major news shows in the USA.    I may not be exactly accurate but this is big among the youth of this World
