Thaksin’s stay at police hospital extended by Corrections Department

The Thai Corrections Department’s director-general has agreed to allow convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to remain at the Police General Hospital for medical treatment, as recommended by his doctors.

The extension order was signed 24 hours before Thaksin’s stay at the hospital reaches its 60th day tomorrow (Sunday).

It was not specified in the order how long Thaksin will stay at the hospital, as the decision rests with the doctors in charge of treating him.

Anti-Thaksin groups and activists have described the treatment of the convicted former prime minster as an example of double-standards, noting that, since his arrival in Thailand on August 22nd, after his 15-year self-imposed exile abroad to avoid incarceration, he has not spent a day behind bars.

They also demand an explanation from the doctors about the actual illnesses, which necessitates his treatment at the Police General Hospital, instead of in the hospital of the Corrections Department.

DE FACTO PHEU THAI boss-cum-convict Thaksin Shinawatra has been officially allowed to stay beyond a 60-day limit at Police Hospital, a partisan source said over the weekend.

Corrections Department director-general Sahakarn Petnarin has already allowed the “sickly” Thaksin to stay on at Police Hospital beyond the 60-day limit, which is otherwise scheduled to end tomorrow (Oct.22) though details of his “illnesses” have invariably remained a mystery to the public.

How much longer the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict could possibly be allowed to stay at the hospital will primarily depend on decisions of the doctors who have been taking care of him, according to the department chief.

What a joke. We all know he's at home with his family.

Could've sworn we were told he was fine a week ago or so... right around the time the photo of him in the pool with his grandkid was leaked.

Still. Nothing to do with us. It's the Thais that [should probably] need to be up in arms, but that'll never happen.

Nothing new hear, if he is still in the hospital, then a few baht should get the required signatures from the physicians.

  • Popular Post

As predicted, he won't spend an hour in the can, looking good, Thailand! 🤔

it's not him that's sick, it's everyone else who comes in contact with him, they all come down with Thaksinitis.

Amazing all this time it’s been on the run. You don’t hear by anything with his house even the day before he came to Thailand he was at a party with that Cambodian guy but his buddy dictator or whatever is an hours that arrives in Thailand he’s flown to a police hospital because he’s in grave danger of dying from his illness or something, what a total joke TIT

That photo was actually "leaked" 2 years ago. Still, you and the rest of the hate mob scoffed up the red meat as usual. Yawn ....

If this two tier justice system for the haves and have nots doesn't wake up the population to the way ordinary Thais are treated, I don't know what will. 'Let them eat cake.' And we know what happened to her.😉

Ahh the food at the hospital must be better then at the prison where he belongs, how much longer is this scam going to last, if you've all been paid off your bribe money just let him out so we don't have to keep reading this horse crap news

Jeeze,

What a bummer for Taksin.

Spends years overseas, flying here, flying there. Healthy as an ox.

Poor guy returns to Thailand and immediately gets sick.

Considering he delayed flights due to seeking medical treatment I suspect he was sick before arriving.

I do wonder, were they to hold one of those NIDA polls, (you know, the ones asking a representative sample of 2000 people, from a variety of age groups, occupations and locations) what percentage would actually give a damn?

Amongst those who supported him, well he has come back, and his faction are in government ( sort off) so they are not too fussed. Those who opposed him, for the most part, it was not because of crimes, real or imagined, but because at his most popular (and powerful) he represented an existential threat to their leaders hegemony, that threat is largely tamed now by the manoeuvres which produced this government, and the further threats to it are from elsewhere (and may well rock their complacency fairly soon). They are not too fussed.

I think they need to release some details on the convict's medical condition(s).

Yes, I know they've invoked privacy concerns but the convict is a public figure, and the public needs to be assured that the "system" is not being bent in his favor.

I recall many times when Rama 9 was hospitalized when Doctors gave lengthy briefings on his condition.

Even general statements like  "his health is improving/stable/getting worse".

Radio silence on this matter does no one any good, even the convict.
