The Thai cabinet announced four New Year public holidays today (Tuesday), from December 29th through January 1st, 2024, said Dr. Prommin Lertsuridej, secretary-general of the Office of the Prime Minister.

For the following New Year, he said that the cabinet approved a proposal to include Monday December 30th as an extra day off, increasing public holidays to five days, from December 28th through January 1st, 2025.

It would have helped if they had actually published a list of all the holidays and which ones will be dry!

PS;  I am asking for the list of the dry days for a friend b4 the "can't you go one day without booze" attacks start!!😄

"Dry" days are just the Buddhist holidays, already published.  Your 'friend' can relax - nothing over New Year is dry.

Thai Cabinet Bridges Holiday Gap to Make New Year a 4-Day Holiday
by Tanakorn Sangiam

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Cabinet has approved a change to the upcoming New Year holiday period to begin a day earlier, effectively starting on 29 December through 1 January. Government agencies may consider keeping their offices open, if the newly announced holiday disrupts their services.

According to Government Spokesman Chai Wacharonke, the Cabinet also approved an additional official holiday for government agencies on 30 December 2024, which will allow civil servants to have a 5-day holiday period next year.

Government agencies are asked to consider whether the newly announced holiday periods would affect their operations and services, and to adjust their closing dates accordingly to minimize the impact.

The Cabinet has also assigned state enterprises, the Bank of Thailand, and the Ministry of Labour to consider adopting the new holidays according to the related laws, which could make the new holidays applicable to state enterprises, financial institutions, and private firms.

The underemployed bureaucrats do so love awarding themselves and their mates long holidays. Why on earth are they taking Friday 29th off, it's got nothing to do with New Year and should be a normal working day? But, of course, if your days in the office are long and empty and your useful economic output is zero (or even negative in many cases), then why not?

Most SME and laborer's dont and can't afford taking extra days off and is only favorable to office workers who get paid whether they are there or not .

In my country only holiday for this period is the 1st,New Years Day unless it falls on a weekend and only then an extra day is awarded .

Pretty sure vast majority of office workers won't get this extra day off either !

For those unfamiliar with such things, on a regular basis the Thai Government will make such announcements on "extra" public holidays.

Around 99% of the time this only applies to those entities under their direct control, being the public sector.
