Thailand expected to have five new airlines operating next year

From 2024, Thailand is expected to have another 5 airlines operating, with a total investment of at least 3.85 billion baht. Thailand is already served with 6 domestic airlines, most whom also have services from Thailand into regional destinations.

 

Nation Thailand reports that Really Cool Airlines, P80 Air, Pattaya Airways, Siam Seaplane, and Landarch Airlines have all received an Air Operating Licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. However, the carriers are still waiting on their Air Operator Certificate before they can launch commercial flights in the kingdom.

 

Really Cool Airlines expects to receive its AOC in January 2024 and begin operations from the second quarter of the year. CEO Patee Sarasin says in the first 2 years, the carrier will focus on Asian routes, including Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. The start up airline seems to have had the lion’s share of media and publicity as it gets ready to start services next year.

If Thailand had proper highways (the ones without traffic lights and u-turns) and high-speed trains, many domestic flights wouldn't even be necessary.

 

Even with their crappy land transport infrastructure, I doubt the market can support a whopping six additional airlines, but I guess we'll see.

How are EVs green? 

 

 A back of the napkin calculation of the various inputs and method of generating the electricity to charge those vehicles indicates that they're an ecological nightmare. 

 

Then there's the extraction and manufacture of the various inputs required to upgrade the electrical grid to provide the power for EVs.  One must also address the proper handling of the heavy metals and other nasty things when the batteries are disposed of. 

 

There are the inputs to mine and transport the raw materials with which to manufacture the batteries, then the inputs required to transport those batteries from the manufacturer to the EV manufacturer.

The only one that makes any sense to me, is Pattaya Air, because the fares out of Utapao are so ridiculous, it's a wonder anybody flies out of that airport!

In romantic theory, perhaps. But not in practice. 

That's not how the competitive market [and business in general] works any longer.

Siam Seaplane makes a lot of sense. If you going to attract high-end tourists, the ones that they are constantly droning on and on about wanting to attract, you have to be able to offer services like this in addition to helicopter services. Most other countries that attract truly wealthy tourists  already offer plenty of these services. Thailand, as usual, is way behind the curve.

I predict 4 out of 5 will either declare bankruptcy or go out of business within five years. Traveling/ vacationing are going to be rough the next few years as the economic woes are going to be hitting hard globally.  As of right now,  leisure travel , especially ones who are planning long stay,  have disposable income.
