DEPUTY Prime Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul tonight (Oct. 28) sent an urgent Line message to all governors across the nation to coordinate with families of Thai workers in Israel to persuade them to return home immediately, TV Channel 7 said.

This step came after Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had earlier in the day issued an urgent message via X, formerly Twitter, that as Israeli forces have intensified their ground operation in Gaza and the war is likely expanding Thais in Israel should change their minds and return home immediately.

Anutin said in his message that the government is facilitating the workers’ return and expediting the issuance of relief measures to fully ease their burdens.

Strange action.. Maybe people don't want to leave  and who is Anutin to push them to leave the country??Thailand has to learn that they can't control everybody all over the world. In their own country they do it, but that works not in other countries

Celestial Emperor Xi has spoken, time for his minions to get in line. Thai governors are sent to "persuade" families of the remaining workers, to force them home, even if those that remain do not want to come back. As these are mostly poor, Thailand can pressure families to have members repatriate, while crowing it is for safety, all while downplaying  the thirty three (38?) Thai workers slaughtered by Hamas. Thailand quietly take sides, just like they did in the Russia Ukraine conflict.

Agreed.

Seems odd for the Deputy PM/Minister of the Interior to delegate the strong-arming of families to Provincial authorities (Influential people)?

I think the government is going to have to incentivize people to return. Debt (on money borrowed to facilitate transport and kick-backs) forgiveness. Lump sum payment. Offer of a job/training.
