At 2:30 PM, on November 4th, 2023, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister, stated to Thai national media about a recent announcement on nighttime service hours to 4 AM in entertainment districts during the Kathina ceremony (Buddhist festival) in Surin.

The Thai government will initially permit bars and nightclubs in four provinces, including Chonburi, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok, to operate until 4 AM, as announced by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on Friday, November 3rd.

Anutin first expressed his thanks to be invited to the ceremony which is to boost tourism and stimulate the economy of locals.

Anutin then added that the new government sees a new opportunity for recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic that decimated the tourism industry in Thailand. The economy and tourism in Thailand are improving and the Thai government is ready to stimulate the economic sectors and support tourism industries.

“Every private sector shall follow the laws, especially, the extension of opening service of entertainment districts to 4 AM, but it does not mean that selling liquor beyond prescribed legal hours: 2 AM.

Excellent Thai execution of a policy change. Opps I guess no one thought to ask about alcohol service when discussing extending the hours of operation in entertainment venues

Now that is a stupid law, allow to stay open but no alcohol, so what the point here and who are the Brainiac  that came up with this idea? I tell you, sometimes i see how the government comes up with new rules that defies common sense and logic...

+1.

I said the same last week, only to get replies like one should not live near bar areas. The same replies ignored the fact that bars might have moved in later than residents. And with more bars moving in, more loud music are added.

Some can't live without their fix of alcohol, and nightlife. Never mind that the majority want to sleep before midnight until dawn. No regard or respect for other people. Some of them will comment soon.

I think he's proposed that people sit around for two extra hours to chat and enjoy tea.

Good way for brown suits to extort a bit more tea money I suspect.

The mind boggles.

Like most laws here, it will be enforced at the whim of the local police.

So you can stay in the bar till 4am but can’t order a beer? 😂😂

Dear me. Thailand, get a grip!

Can stay open until 4am,  but no alcohol is just a  money spinner for the local plod, more raids  coming at 02.01

You need to be careful with what you ask for as you just might get it. The industry asked to extend the open hours in tourist areas and that's exactly what they got. Hahahaha.

It's similar to the 10k per person policy.

We give everybody 10,000 THB, free! And then: But where will the money come from. Maybe we should also think about that part, maybe.

And initially I was worried that the BiB will have no reason anymore to collect some extra money...

Also like the weed deregulation. Deregulate it for medical use but opps forgot to write the laws for controling non medical use. TIT

Soelling

The government keep changing laws for personal profit without thinking long term. Cannabis laws a perfect example. Now bars can open untl 4.0 am in some areas but can  not sell beer after 2.0 a m. Dumber and Dumber. Will they ever learn??

That will work about as well as the Cannabis only for medical purposes law

I think Pattaya News needed some readers and wrote a clickbait article.

Since when are legal liquor selling hours till 2am anyway? Legal hours are from 11am till 2pm and 5pm till midnight.

So how do bars now sell liquor outside those hours?
