Let's be clear I'm talking about expensive compared to Vietnam or Thailand.

I paid 2.5$ for an Americano the other day.

Same price as a bottled beer...

2$ for a sugar can drink.

What do you think ?

Food and drinks in cambodia are the same or more then thailand for the eateries you are used to. The local markets are not that great and you risk disease unless you are careful. Meaning you need to scrub everything and i would probably do an alcohol wipe.

You can visit that big local market near the river and grand palace to see what i mean. I did not even shop there for edibles and was kind of used to it.

Rents were probably about the same as Thailand when i was there many years ago, but you get less quality in Cambodia.

This is so weird it's like cheap is only possible at a certain level of development. Under doesn't work, above doesn't cut it either. So strange.

True. Does make any sense. Vietnam and Thailand are more developed than Laos and Cambodia....

Yeah I know.

I book a 11$ room on Agoda.

Looked decent.

In reality even a rat wouldn't accept to live here. I had to fix an air freshener on the fan to hide the disgusting smell... Well it's supposed to be an aircon but it doesn't really work so it's a fan imo.

... I'm gonna f$cking die here...

where are you now, downtown?

the cheap rooms can be pretty bad/dirty.

when i was there i just started booking airbnb's which seemed much better, safer, cleaner.

watch out if you wander around at night. there are many drug (meth) addicts wandering around which is different then thailand/vietnam.

The hotel is a bit more, but they're practically giving away the food -which I rate over Thai food. A taxi mafia that would shame Phuket too.

Still, it was hard for us to spend $80 a day in Vientiane, and that was with taking people out.

I'm where all the tourists are.

You know street 136 with all the bars.

I dunno if this is what you call downtown...

Next week I'm gonna go elsewhere.

Moving to another district or maybe to the beach in Sihanoukville.

Siem Reap is a f$ckery as well for what I've understood.

I was supposed to stay a month in this country.

But just beautiful women ain't gonna cut it....

Battabang had a little hey day ask a old Frenchie building/foodie spot like Luang Prubang.

But like LP, Covid has crushed that and it will not soon return. No longer worth going out of your way for.

$2.50 a beer is still cheaper than Thailand. I thought food prices were similar but portions were much bigger in Cambodia.

I found many places with .75 cent beers. Although it’s been a few years.

I liked siem reap, and kampot has really developed. Many expats living there now.

Dave The Rave. I met him once when he was managing a gogo at Nana Plaza - the angel witch I think. He was kind of a legend back then. I've heard he lost his leg not too long ago. Bummer for a fighter like him.

go to siem reap and see the temples. i lived in siem reap a year or two and liked it. i don't recommend sihanoukville at all.

the bus station is just a couple streets over. https://www.giantibis.com/

Ok thanks. I'm gonna think about it.

I might just go back to Vietnam and then flight to Thailand from there in January...

We'll see :)
