Pak Kret sinkhole causes traffic disruption, urgent repairs underway

A giant sinkhole disrupted traffic at the mouth of the Pak Kret tunnel on Tiwanon Road when a precast concrete slab, covering an electrical conduit, collapsed due to heavy traffic.

Authorities quickly cleared the area and temporarily halted traffic to urgently repair the damage, aiming to finish before the morning rush hour. The incident occurred at 8pm yesterday.

The Pak Kret sinkhole, discovered on the right lane of both inbound and outbound sides of Tiwanon Road, measured approximately 8 metres wide, 11 metres long, and was between 40 and 50 centimetres deep.

It revealed a temporary conduit for underground electrical cables, originally covered by a precast concrete slab. The slab could not withstand the weight of the heavy traffic and gave way.

There certainly seems to be a potential design issue with these concrete hole covers! :whistling:

It wasn't/isn't a sinkhole.

It was/is a fabricated underground chamber with a concrete slab covering it.

The slab collapsed.

The fact of it being a manmade void was made clear very soon after the collapse.

Stop calling it a sinkhole for ***** sake!

Correct, it appears the design did not have a suitable safety factor built into it .... Safety :cheesy::clap2:

That's not a sinkhole! This is a sinkhole!

What are these conduits?  This one looks identical to the one in Sukhumvit Road near True Digital Park.  The article is certainly incorrect since the depth of the hole is more than 50 cm deep - on fact it looks bottomless!  Also there is no sign of electrical cables...and it certainly does not look temporary in any way.  Has anyone noticed these huge concrete rings being installed?  The operation must require a huge mobile crane.

That's gonna have to be some patch?

That sinkhole has a giant tube inside it.  haha

This is fake news.  That is NOT a sinkhole. A sinkhole is a natural occurrence caused by erosion. This is yet another example of incompetent road building, where concrete covers of man made drains collapse because of inadequate materiel and planning

I've emailed the Thaiger and asked them to stop publishing fake news and get the facts right. A similar kind of thing happened during the pandemic when certain publications called the initial anti covid jab a booster jab which it wasn't

Going by the story, it was due to heavy traffic and a ''landslide'' Absolutely Nothing to do with bad Engineering construction then  :cheesy::unsure:
