December 1, 20232 yr Popular Post No news is not good news, say the government’s critics, with calls mounting for an update on the health of Thaksin Shinawatra. The convicted former PM was arrested on his return to Thailand on August 22 and incarcerated at Bangkok Remand Prison. But that didn’t last for long. Less than 24 hours later, he was transferred to the Police General Hospital due to chest pains, high blood pressure, and low blood oxygen. Following some initial reports on his condition, the updates started to peter out and then it all went quiet… The Bangkok Post reports that it’s now been 100 days since Thaksin’s transfer to the Police General Hospital. With accusations of preferential treatment swirling, former election commissioner and government critic Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, is demanding an explanation. December 1, 20232 yr Author Popular Post Political prognosis: Advisor probes Thaksin Shinawatra’s health and cell by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Reuters The health status and incarceration conditions of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have come under the scrutiny of Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, an advisor to the Parliament Committee on Budgeting Study and Budget Administration Follow-up. Somchai is pressing the government to shed light on Thaksin’s situation, 100 days after his transfer to the Police General Hospital following chest pain, hypertension, and low blood oxygen levels. Thaksin, following his return on August 22 and subsequent imprisonment, was initially quarantined at the Bangkok Remand Prison. The Chiang Mai-born former PM’s health issues led to his relocation to the Police General Hospital. Somchai raised concerns on social media. “Thaksin has been in a VIP room at the Police General Hospital for 100 days. If the government can’t clarify the truth about this privilege, the issue will become a crisis for the government and the premier.” Somchai further noted that the ambiguity surrounding the Thai businessman’s situation has spurred public speculation. The current government is led by the Pheu Thai Party, linked to the Thai businessman, and Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin oversees the management of the Royal Thai Police.
