Did you go to this year motorshow in bkk and what are/were the discounts to be had? I seem to recall a few years ago it was about 10% cheaper buying there. Not sure thats still the case?

A friend of mine said he was there inquiring about a new Ford Ranger and he said they were offering absolutely nothing in the way of discounts, which is quite shocking considering the fact that new car sales are at a near standstill at the moment here in Thailand.

According to this article sales are

down 7.5% compared to the same period last year not a huge drop and mainly due to tighter lending criteria

Do these numbers add up to you? And besides, compared to last year? When the economy was post covid? These numbers are dismal.

The overall market saw sales of 645,833 units sold, down 7.5% compared to the same period last year. In October, 58,963 units were sold, representing an 8.8% decrease year on year.

The top 10 auto brands in Thailand based on sales (Jan-Oct 2023):

Toyota: 220,144 units
Isuzu: 131,256 units
Honda: 77,188 units
Ford: 31,329 units
Mitsubishi: 28,280 units
MG: 22,293 units
BYD: 21,865 units
Mazda: 14,709 units
Nissan: 13,886 units
Neta: 10,565 units

I wouldn't say the numbers are dismal these are the domestic car sales figures for Thailand , in addition the auto brands based in Thailand are expected to export 1,100,000 cars

the numbers seem to add up the breakdown is only for the top ten brands

The total export of fully assembled cars for the 10-month period (January- October 2023) stands at 927,625 units, a notable increase of 15.86% from the corresponding period of the previous year, with an export value of 591.92 billion baht, 19.03% higher than in the same period of 2022.

If you friend waits until early next year they should find 2024 models with a build date of Nov or Dec 2023 and they should be more heavily discounted than a 2024 build date model as while sales people will try and sell at standard retail price from a consumer point of view

2024 model build date 2024 vs 2024 model build date 2023 no one in their right mind is going to pay the same price for a 2023 build date if they can get a 2024 build

In his case the 2024 models are already out and they're attempting to sell the 2023 models at the same price which is pretty crazy right?

Suspect the Seal U suv will appear at the March 2024 Motor show Byd know the price of the DEEPAL S07 so will want to make adjustments to specs to bring seal u in at lower price

Never really understood why Thailand has 2 motor show's each year and only 4 months between each one

problem for auto manufacturer is they want a flagship model at each one hence seal this motor show and seal u end of march 2024

Thanks for the information!

... We were at the motor show yesterday--extremely crowded ...

..  We were disappointed that the Seal U suv was not on display, just the Seal sedan ...

we attended the motor show in march 2023. if the ongoing motor expo had featured

the byd song L or byd sea lion 07, i would have traveled to bangkok (a round trip of 1,600 km).

another reason for me to go would be if they announced the sale of the denza N7 or

the avatar 11 / 12 for the next year! but they didn't, will wait for the moto expo 2024 ...

the byd seal U looks nice, but i think the performance specifications (204 hp) are just too weak.
