Of the 35 Michelin-starred restaurants, Thailand has welcomed two new two-star and six additional one-star restaurants in the 2024 Michelin Guide Thailand edition, which consists of 447 food establishments: seven with two Michelin Stars, 28 with one Michelin star, 196 Bib Gourmand, and 216 Michelin Selected venues.

The 2024 Michelin Guide Thailand edition adds two Michelin stars listings – Baan Tepa, serving a contemporary Thai tasting menu, and the contemporary Indian restaurant GAA. The new entries have been promoted from their one-star rating in the previous list.

It is noteworthy that GAA is only the second Indian restaurant in the world to currently hold two Michelin stars. It is also remarkable that both new two-star restaurants are run by female chefs: Chef Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam (Baan Tepa) and Chef Garima Arora (GAA).

“I just want to say thank you to the Michelin guide and staff. We’ve been so focused this year working on our missions to be better in every way, to be more sustainable, and to deliver the best service we can. So to be recognised is amazing,” said Chef Chudaree.

I don't have an interest or belief that these supposedly Michelin Star restaurants in Thailand actually enhance the Michelin name or that they are just so fantastic.

Som Tum in one of these establishments would be indistinguishable from most night food stalls! IMO, it's simply a tourist promotion.

I tend to agree, it's often used as an excuse to vastly inflate their prices.

My oldest friends had three successful and highly rated restaurants in London; let me assure you that getting a star in the Michelin Guide involves reaching a very high standard, no matter where you are in the world.  The inspectors take it very seriously indeed. It's one of the few things left. that just can't be bought.

Yes I can clearly see the high standard in the one Michelin star restaurant.

And fried crab omelet, priced at 1,200 Thai baht, must be the standard in Bangkok these days?

Except Indian food, I see many Michelín out there. Thai food is one the best in Asia, after Korean and Japanese. IMOIMG_2367.jpeg.d5ff18c9a0d969dee2d67e5ebd50b599.jpeg

Did someone superimpose a Walmart customer on that picture?
