Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will fly to the southern province of Narathiwat after the cabinet meeting today, to inspect the flooding and to visit those affected.

The Meteorological Department is warning of more heavy downpours in the south today and tomorrow.

The prime minister said today that he does not want officials in the province to officially welcome him and would prefer them to concentrate on helping flood victims.

Strange. I remember Mark Vejajiva touring the South as prime minister in early 2011 and promising he wouldn't allow this to happen again.

There was flooding last year and there is flooding this year, whereas for decades there was no such problem. It's almost a given that human activities have contributed to this misery.

My wife and I managed to keep dry feet last year, but this year my rental home got a few cm of water inside, having some minor flood damage. We expect even worse it the years to come and will have to take our precautions accordingly.

If you live elsewhere in Thailand, don't get your hopes up either. Greater Bangkok is slowly sinking into the rising sea for sure.

My sister-in-law's house in Yala has a river running at the front and is the worst she has known it. Extreme weather is becoming much more frequent due to climate change and I'm not sure the world is ready for it's profound impact.
