Do you do immigration business yourself? If so why?

There were days I couldn't contact anyone.  It was <deleted> by people who had no business in this business.

The point of giving these louts money, is to be free from all the bull <deleted>. It was nothing of the sort.

So (despite your whinging about something that you speculate could have happened but didn't) you got your passport back complete with extension and no real issues.  Those "louts who had no business being in that business" got you your extension by being in that business that you think they shouldn't be in!

How so.

Details please.

Isn't it obvious?

Here's a couple; immigration cannot arrest you or charge you for speeding, assult, murder........

Police cannot deport you, issue a fine for overstay or not doing a 90 day report.

The government departments also differ.

Lucky you ... as mine is 100 kms / ~1.5 hrs away ...

It was happenstance, we bought the house because it was convenient for local schools. Never had much dealings with immigration whilst I was working, multi entry non-O's worked fine. It was only with Covid that I switched to annual extensions and realised how conveniently close we were to the immigration office.

No, it isn't apparent. Immigration police made the newspapers by going out and doing their criminal investigations about things that weren't Immigration related. They can do it all. Maybe they have more powers than the local police.

And they likely would not accept it. I have found that the agents who deal with farang expats and those who deal with migrant workers are completely different and one will not handle the other.

Assumed as much, but never checked. Sounds reasonable, different crowds, different visas.

I was wondering:  Does speaking Thai with the Immo officer make any difference?

They speak English and are maybe a little gratified when they do so successfully. I doubt it makes any difference, but your Thai should be quite polite and up to the task. Really, the papers are the issue.

I give a quick, polite Sawadee Krub, smile, and a respectful little wai. I figure, can't hurt and may be a start on the right foot anyway. Personally, I sympathize with what they must put up with daily. I can say that with me, at least, the IOs are always polite and professional. My papers are always in perfect order, however, neatly typed. I'm normally a messy person but not in this case.

They should get other jobs if they are not up to the task. They decided to become immigration police. I have no sympathy for them.

Typical response here, nothing new. Nor does anyone care what you think. 'Course, now, you decided to come to Thailand, so they shouldn't have any sympathy for you, either, or make anything easier for you. Make an idiot mistake, too bad for you.

But the idiots and the abuse they have to put up with really shouldn't be part of the job. Some of the idiots I've seen should have been escorted right out of the office, and if they resisted, then detained and deported. We farang should just obey the rules and treat the IOs respectfully as well. Things would go a lot smoother, I think.

How do you know they break the rules, what rules? They are bureaucrats doing a job.🤔 Simple as...

oh glad you asked.

example 1 - during the height of covid when mask wearing was mandatory there was one young peacock officer strutting around our immigration office maskless. multiple times.

example 2 - this one is great. the same peacock parked his car literally at the bottom of the wheelchair ramp. as i was sitting outside i turned to my wife and said i bet you anything it is the same a hole. sure enough a few minutes later he came out of the building. opened his car grabbed something shut the door and went back inside.

those sort of rules.

I believe the conversation is regarding immigration/visa/extension rules.
