webfact
The incident occurred on January 23, 2024, at around 3:10 PM on the motorway connecting Bang Yai and Kanchanaburi in Tambon Takramen, Amphoe Thamaka, Kanchanaburi Province. The victims, identified as Mr. Apinyo Benchachat, 25, and Mr. Naranong Sakdang, 27, both employees of the Takramen Subdistrict Administrative Organization (TAO), were seated on top of the garbage truck when the driver failed to notice the low clearance of the underpass. The collision resulted in fatal head injuries for both workers, reported Thai Rath. Picture: Thai Rath Emergency services were immediately notified, and the injured workers were rushed to Makarak Hospital. Both individuals succumbed to their injuries, with one pronounced dead on the scene and the other at the hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed that the underpass, with a height of 4 meters and a width of 10 meters, was not on the usual route of the garbage truck. The driver, in an attempt to avoid further danger, swiftly drove about a kilometer to park in front of the Takramen Health Promotion Hospital, seeking assistance. The accident was captured on nearby surveillance cameras, showing the workers seated atop the moving truck, oblivious to the impending danger. Authorities suspect that the workers may have climbed onto the garbage load, fearing it might spill over, leading to the tragic incident. Additionally, information obtained from a local shop owner at the intersection indicated that garbage trucks typically operated during the early morning hours, but on this particular day, they were collecting in the evening. The change in collection schedule may have contributed to the unfortunate circumstances. As investigations continue, the police will coordinate with Kanchanaburi authorities to reexamine the accident site, gather evidence, and summon the garbage truck driver for a statement to proceed with legal actions. Not where I am they sit on top sorting through the recyclable stuff they can sell, only on the back while collecting, then up on to the top.
