Thai Fiscal Policy Office forecasts 2.8% GDP growth this year

Thailand’s economic growth this year is expected to be about 2.8%, largely due to increasing exports and tourism. This compares favourably against 1.8% GDP growth last year, according to Pornchai Theeravet, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office and spokesman for the Finance Ministry.

There are plans to market Koh Yao, in the southern province of Phang Nga, as a wellness destination, according to the Thai health minister, Cholnan Srikaew. Koh Yao is made up of rate northern Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai, both in Phang Nga Bay between Phuket and Krabi.

The Cyber Police recently busted an online fraud ring for impersonating police officers from Phitsanulok and scamming nearly 90,000 baht from a victim by claiming their bank account was involved in a money laundering case. The arrest of 27 year old Worapong was made today, following an investigation by high-ranking officers from the Special Investigation Division.

Household debt this year expected to increase to 91.4% of GDP

Thailand’s household debt is expected to soar to 16.9 trillion baht, or 91.4% of GDP, by the end of this year, with the value of non-performing loans (NPLs) in the banking system estimated at about 152 billion baht, according to TMB Thanachart Analytics.
