THE BODY of a young Ukrainian man was found mysteriously hanged with his hands tied behind his back at a remote durian orchard on Koh Samui last evening, Amarin TV said this morning (Jan. 25).

Pol. Col. Denduang Thongsrisuk, superintendent of Bo Phut police station, and his team together with forensic officers, a doctor from Koh Samui Hospital and rescuers, went up the steep Tha Sok mountain on four-wheel-drive vehicles to the spot at the durian orchard where the foreign tourist’s body was found hanging from a branch of a tree.

He was wearing a pair of shorts and no shirt but a red T-shirt covered half his face. Cable ties had been used to tie his hands behind his back and a red chair had fallen beneath him.

His decomposed body was taken to Koh Samui Hospital for autopsy and it was estimated that he had been dead for four to five days.

he tied his own hands behind his back

You seem to think that is somewhat difficult. 3 cable ties and about 3 seconds.

What is your IQ?

So they found them with his hands, tied with wires behind his back a shirt over his head and it red chair kicked out. I would be checking for any Russians in the area. Those Russians are pretty tricky. They could’ve made it look like a suicide I still can’t figure out how one would actually tie their hands behind their back then put a rope or noose around their neck, and they kick the chair out, then again TIT

Reverse the sequence - stand on red chair, put red t-shirt over head, secure noose around neck, secure hands at the back with cable tie (this could be a bit of a challenge but if the lead is long enough, it's still doable), kick away chair and snap!

Not suggesting this is what happened, just saying it is possible. It could be a suicide, or murder made to look like a suicide.

The link says he's lived in Thailand for many years, and was now suffering form depression.. maybe suicide.

Very easy to place cable ties already looped over hands behind back, he would only need to feel for the ends to tighten. That said, even the Thai experts should be able to rule out suicide or murder.

RIP young man.

RIP.

Having wrestled with the visa choices in my late 40's as the ability to stay long-term became harder, I'm always a little surprised when you read of situations where young people have managed somehow to achieve that, in this unfortunate guy's case presumably for some time since his 20's.

and why would one do that? a friend of mine, a farmer in Germany, hung himself in his barn, hands by his side.

They often do it, so that they cannot change their mind. If they do it without bind their hands together behind their back before kicking the stool away, the natural instinct is of course to struggle to pull themselves up etc.

Yeah, off course. You chose:

  1. First he hanged himself, and after tied his hands behind his back.
  2. First he tied his hands behind his back, and after took a rope and hanged himself.

Maybe, you realize, neither of the above really works.

Cable ties.

One around each wrist. then hands behind the back and slip another one through both and pull. It would probably take about 3 seconds for anybody to do it.

I've only ever heard someone hanging themselves with there hands tied in Thailand, why would you tie your hands behind your back before hanging? Or is it just in case you change your mind or do you automatically try to pull yourself up (grabbing rope) etc.

"Additionally the autopsy result is awaited to determine the cause of death but it is still uncertain whether he was hanged or hanged himself, they said." (Quote from article.)

Probably difficult to hang oneself with hands tied on the back with cable ties; even if one suffers from depression and is a long time habitant on the island.

The are a number of Ukrainians living/staying on Samui, some have been here since before the Covid-pandemic.

RIP, sad end to a young life.

Too little information in the article to make any judgement about suicide or not. Leave in to the forensic team to produce the evidence and reach a conclusion.
