webfact Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 A secondary education student was fatally stabbed by a classmate at a municipal school in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district this morning. The victim died shortly after arriving at hospital. Suan Luang district director Bancha Suebkraphan told Thai PBS that the apparently unprovoked attack took place at about 8.40am, as the students were lining up in front of the flag pole for the daily flag-raising ritual. He said that the victim, a 9th year (Mathayom 2) student, was stabbed by a classmate, who is a “special child”, a term used for children who have special needs, adding that there was no quarrel reported prior to the stabbing. He also said that the victim was pronounced dead at about 10.20am. Chris Daley Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 It's always the quiet kid. Research shows that US prison inmates are mostly people with high extraversion and low agreeableness. The loud mouth noisy <deleted> is the one to be careful of. 1 2

Pouatchee Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 i've been saying it for years. the thai education is simply not equipped to deal with anything in regards to child psychology and how to deal with kids. back home, there are tailor designed special intervention plans laid out to help teachers deal with special needs students. here, in thailand, as foreigners in thai schools we are not allowed to intervene in discipline matters, nor are there any intervention plans implemented to help the kids. it is the ALMIGHTY THAI TEACHER who will fix all the problems. never mind that these ladies (most thai teachers are women) dont have a background in education, nor have they had classes in adolescent and child psychology they are gods and they know best. things are not going to get better any time soon as long as these nags run the roost... but hey... thats the way they want it 1 1
hotchilli Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 Another sad day for Thailand. The safety net for anyone with "issues" is virtually zero. 1 1

Tailored intervention plans? Yeah, but only plans. How would you explain all these incidents in schools? Wrong plans?🙏

The problem is that this is not just a Thai issue. My friend's granddaughter is in high school as a normal student. The problem is she is not normal. She suffers from FAS and does not have the same maturity level. There are no special school resources in place for these kids. The other issue is the parents. Most of them have no idea how to care for or look after a problem child other than going to the monks for prayers. Thai teachers are overworked and under-educated and supported by the administration. The challenge that a lot of Thai teachers have is ignorance of the changes. Consider that a 50-year-old Thai teacher was in school BEFORE computers. 40 year old teachers were learning before MTV came out 30 year old started teaching just as Facebook began 20 years ago, Twitter started. Any student that had a phone in the past 20 years had a phone that you could call and or text. Now you have MS chat Lilne, facetime whats app and an assortment of apps Then add to the fact that life before all these things was simpler. Teachers taught students to listen. The Thai family was established with an order that had an order where grandparents looked after the kids while the oldest son and wife worked and looked after the family. there was little peer pressure. People did not have outside noise. Also, remember that the older teachers started during the Vietnam War in a system that was developed in the 30s. People did not have the financial issues or day to day stress. The solutions are going to take time but need to start with the schools developing the 60's Canadian system where there are vice principals or directors that are responsible for student discipline. Guidelines need to be established, and parents need to be advised of the new rules and also contacted about issues that arise. How many of us hear the words, "Kingston kid, go see the principal," Then the principal of vice saying, "ok, hope you have no plans for after school as you are going to be staying after school," then notifying parents that you would need a different way home or would be late. The bottom line is yes, there needs to be actual teaching of grads who want to teach with them doing internships in schools that have passed OBEC screening and have an established system with teachers that will assist them. 1

Unless, of course, it is a discussion as to who is right, the Thai teacher or NES. lol

This isn't USA, it isn't as easy as looking if he's black to tell if you're dealing with criminal. It is much more complicated here.
