Burmese magnate Tun Min Latt walks free from drug trafficking trial

The Criminal Court acquitted Myanmar magnate Tun Min Latt and Senator Upakit Pacharirangkun’s son-in-law, Dean Young Gultula, of drug trafficking charges. The ruling cited insufficient evidence, leaving jaws dropping in disbelief.

Thailand pushes talks with Cambodia over transboundary pollution

House speaker waits for full text of Constitutional Court’s ruling on Move Forward

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said today that he is not sure yet whether the Constitutional Court’s ruling will bar parliament from debating the lèse majesté issue, as he is waiting for the full text of the court’s ruling.

Another day, another hearing at the Constitutional Court for Thailand’s Move Forward Party. Last week, former party leader Pita Limjaroenrat faced the court alone. He was accused of owning shares in a media company (iTV), an illegal act for members of parliament in Thailand.

Ruangkrai asks EC to dissolve Move Forward

As anticipated, political petitioner Ruangkrai Leekitwattana lodged a petition with the Election Commission (EC) today, to seek the dissolution of the opposition Move Forward party. This follows the Constitutional Court’s decision yesterday that the party’s campaign to amend the lèse majesté law (Article 112 of the Criminal Code) constitutes an attempt to topple the constitutional monarchy.

Activist seeks political ban on 44 Move Forward MPs

A staunch royalist and former advisor to the House committee on legal affairs, Sonthiya Sawasdee, told the media today that he will submit a petition to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) tomorrow. It will seek an investigation of the ethical conduct of 44 Move Forward MPs, for their approval of a bill to amend Article 112 of the Criminal Code, the lèse majesté law.

Last suspect in Pathumwan student murder surrenders

How much more time will be wasted on fights that probably are just symbolic?

Legal and political actions are in full swing following Wednesday’s ruling against the Move Forward Party by the Constitutional Court. Thai politics has revolved around them for too long and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future, at the expense of the fact that there many issues that require serious and immediate attention.

Fourth suspect arrested in Rice Department chief’s extortion case

A fourth suspect, allegedly involved with serial petitioner Srisuwan Janya in attempting to extort Bt1.5 million from the director-general of Rice Department, was arrested by anti-corruption police and officials from the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) today.
