William W. Taylor III, a veteran white-collar defense attorney in Washington, D.C., who has handled cases in federal and state court around the country, said that Mr. Trump was hardly the only defendant who wanted to delay a trial.

“Anybody who’s got four criminal cases to contend with has four serious problems,” he said. “The last thing you want to do if you’re in the position of being a defendant in those things is to have any of them be resolved.”

Fortunately for Justice, the accused doesn’t get to set the trial date.

Great.   Rob a bank. If you are arrested, find someone to invent dirt on the prosecutor, and hope a judge removes the prosecutor.   Shampoo rinse repeat until the case is dismissed

Political strategists and legal experts view Trump’s two federal cases as more perilous, but it’s not clear they will happen before the election. The timing of all four (criminal) cases against Trump remain up in the air.

“Any time the criminal defense has a postponement in a trial, it’s a good day for them,” said John Fishwick, a former federal prosecutor who has been following Trump’s cases closely.

As usual, nothing substantive about the topic, which is the Trump trial in Georgia.

But, yes: when Trump is convicted, Fani Willis will have a party.

The topic is Fani Willis in case you missed that.

Even the appearance will do it.

I understand the judge's election is 2-3 weeks away.  In a blue county with a lot of Black voters.  It wouldn't surprise me if that figured into his decision, that he could let the charade go on for another few weeks before pissing off the Black and the Blue voters in Fulton county by yanking her.  Especially after her race baiting in church.

I halfway expect to see him making different decisions after the election.  That based on his pretty unflattering proclamations about Ms Willis' behavior.  In any case, she needs to be on her best behavior after that election.

Meanwhile, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, who’s presiding over the election interference case, drew two challengers for his nonpartisan race in May: Robert Patillo, a civil rights attorney, and Tiffani Johnson, a staff attorney for another Fulton County judge.

Good catch.  I guess my pundits (3 of them, all right wing- but different venues)  mis-spoke,  It's 2-3 months, not 2-3 weeks.  Still, I suspect he may make different decisions once the election is done and dusted.  Removing Willis wouldn't have been a prudent political move for his re-election, regardless of how correct it would have been.

Maybe. But you'd have to prove that to be sure.

You are pressing the laws to your argument. Study this phrase: "Beyond a reasonable doubt." See that, no? pick up your glasses. There's the word "doubt" at the end.

In layman term, the buck stops with the verdict. You don't have to be "sure."

You might know that was a ruling from McAfee. Not a verdict.

However, his remarks included this: 'there are “reasonable questions” about whether Willis and Wade “testified untruthfully” about when their relationship began'. So, rather close to meaning that there is some reasonable doubt. That is why Wade has left the building. I expect that we will hear more about the dynamic duo soon.

The judge said it looks bad, and the "appearance of impropriety " was his standard.

I'm not complaining, Fani Willis needs a better lead prosecutor.

What a weak, pathetic decision.

No surprise though. She ticked all the right boxes.

I'm happy with the fact that despite the lack of justice in the ruling, her reputation is now firmly in the gutter, alongside her morals.

Pivoting fast, didn't you?

Going from the original accusation of improperly benefitting from their personal relationship

to "Whether Willis and Wade “testified untruthfully”' about any aspect of said relationship.

Keep moving the goal post, I'm sure you'll find some doubt somewhere somehow some time along the way...Distract, Deflect and Delay, the classic 3 Ds tactics.

No pivoting, no goal posts. Why can't trolls manage without cutting in on the conversations of others. anyway?

Trump, co-defendants ask to appeal judge’s decision not to remove DA Willis

Attorneys for former President Donald Trump and seven co-defendants in the Fulton election interference case are asking a Superior Court judge for permission to appeal his recent decision that has kept District Attorney Fani Willis at the helm of the prosecution.

The defendants on Monday requested that Judge Scott McAfee grant a so-called “certificate of immediate review,” which would give them permission to appeal his ruling to the Georgia Court of Appeals before a trial begins.

In particular they highlighted McAfee’s response to their argument that Willis’ comments during a recent church speech were considered forensic misconduct, a disqualifying defense. McAfee had called her remarks “legally improper” but said he felt his hands were tied due to a lack of guidance in Georgia case law.

“Whether District Attorney Willis and her office are permitted to continue representing the State of Georgia in prosecuting the Defendants in this action is of the utmost importance to this case, and ensuring the appellate courts have the opportunity to weigh in on these matters pre-trial is paramount,” the group wrote.

Prosecutors in Georgia have proposed a start date of Aug. 5, 2024, for the remaining defendants in the 2020 election interference case, including former President Donald Trump.

I was surprised that Merchant didn't call in a psychic to testify on this aspect of the relationship. Well, Robin Yeartie came close.
