Australians and New Zealanders unable to apply for Thai E-Visas

Recommended Posts

The Australian and New Zealand Embassies of Thailand have stopped issuing visas by post and over the counter and said to apply online through the e-visa portal, but as of 11am Sydney time on 19th March online is also not available, meaning that those residing in Australia and New Zealand cannot apply for a Thai visa since one must apply where one is residing. Aussie and Kiwis not being able to apply for visas to Thailand... best news so far today 🙂

Clearly, the Thai MoFA has a tech issue so hopefully they will get it back online soon. Likely after enough phone calls to the Thai embassies in OZ & NZ.

Yes, hopefully, since applying for visas hasn't been possible since late last week and was supposed to come online today. There will be a few annoyed people who urgently require a visa but are unable to apply.

Arriving visa exempt and then sorting it out in country not an option ?

Not if one is applying for a Non-B, which must be applied for outside of Thailand, but which can be applied for inside Thailand if having arrived on a tourist visa applied for outside of the country and not just a visa waiver entry stamp on arrival.

They are probably waiting for MoFA to announce the new fees before they push the button to allow people to apply.

As a Kiwi do you have to pay much higher fees now or was that a mistake or something. Seemed bizarre. Australian fee $60 for two months the same of course.

According to the embassy in Wellington, yes all people applying through Wellington will have to pay higher fees. However no, because no one can apply at the moment through Wellington. They are not accepting applications from anyone and so far no one has been charged any higher fees because despite supposedly being implemented today they have not been available to apply for.

Where's that forum dude with his Thai wife working at the Sydney consulate? Any comments from him, as he has his wife with the insider info as to what's going on here.

No idea bbi1, but a week is a significantly long time for Sydneysiders to be unable to apply for a Thai visa.

Someone ought to be able to say whats going on, so that forum member's input would be interesting.

Don't understand  why tourists would get a visa at all if they're here visiting. Such a rigmarole to get a plain old tourist visa why bother?

30 days and extend another 30 if they're travelling for an extended holiday.

In my case because going between 60 and 90 days. But for others I imagine it can seem better and easier to get it done at the start, as some of the stories of going to immigration offices with long queues and maybe some unexpected request, do not inspire you to take the punt when there.
