Sattahip, Chonburi — The Royal Thai Police seized five vessels suspected of carrying over 400,000 liters of smuggled oil in the Gulf of Thailand near Sattahip, Chonburi.

The major operation was conducted on March 19th, 2024, involving various law enforcement departments within the Royal Thai Police. The vessels were located approximately 100 nautical miles off the coast of Sattahip district, Chonburi province.

Upon the operation, five vessels were found allegedly carrying over 400,000 liters of smuggled oil. The unknown number of suspects on the vessels were detained and handed over to the Sattahip Police Station for legal proceedings.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Thaksin's special reserve. He's known to skirt taxes like he did when he off loaded his telecommunications company and passed a law while he was PM to pay nil in taxes....

False headlines  again. The vessels were not caught smuggling oil in Sattahip or even near Sattahip. The report itself makes that clear.

This report implies that the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Police extends to at least 100 nautical miles (185.2 km) offshore even though the Thailand EEZ is 200nm. I find that hard to believe. What was their probable cause to detain the vessels so far offshore?
