Daughter sentenced to 12 years for stealing money from her mother

The Supreme Court today upheld the ruling of the lower courts, confirming the sentencing of a 57-year-old woman to 12 years in prison after she was found guilty of stealing Bt24 million from her ailing mother.

 

Huay Srivirat, 86, told the court that her daughter, Mawadee, withdrew money from her bank accounts numerous times without her consent and while she was in a hospital for coronary artery disease in 2017.

 

The amount withdrawn from Huay’s accounts totalled Bt24 million.

Wouldn't say that too fast, I dated quite a few thai chinese girls of which the mothers had all kinds of other ideas if it came to the money on their old days / when passing away. To start with stuff like making huge donations to temples and the like. Anyway, serves her right to be in prison for this regardless.

Usually it is the amount of money that increases the sentence drastically, in many countries.

At then end of the day,  if you're white and male you are going to pay.  Married or short time, it still costs you in the end.

It's the repeated offence that caused the court to punish her so harshly and the fact that knowingly, she committed

the offence time and time again knowing it was wrong to do so..

Always the same. You can take a country, impoverish and/or slay thousands, just don’t steal esp from banks or the wrong people. No time for thieves either though, so good enough.

Actually it's per incident, 2 years for fraud, so 6 times, or 12 times, if she pleaded guilty, and got half sentence.

 

Murderers get 8 yrs usually, (half of 16) if they confess & plead guilty, no matter how heinous the crime is.
