Does that make it more or less likely that Russia will continue the war in Ukraine? Given that Russia probably invaded Ukraine to stop it joining NATO, one has to wonder if the leaders of NATO are morons or just stupid? The least they could do is not mention it in public, but seems they can't keep their yaps shut. 1 4 1

It has a large amount of Russian armaments on its soil, which pose a direct threat to the countries which border it (Latvia, Lithuania, Poland). Presumably, you would see no problem in NATO invading Belarus in order to prevent Belarus becoming even more integrated into Russia, and to reduce the threat to Latvia, Lithuania and Poland? 1 2
Wobblybob Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 NATO should be joining Ukraine the way they have so gallantry fought.🇺🇦 1 1

Does that make it more or less likely that Russia will continue the war in Ukraine? It makes it more likely, obviously. NATO and western governments knew NATO enlargement was provocative and would likely lead to war, but kept pushing anyway. Even the Ukrainians knew. Current CIA direct knew too and warned the US back in 2008. https://geopoliticaleconomy.com/2022/02/27/us-nato-expansion-ukraine-russia-intervene/ On 4/4/2024 at 4:10 AM, thaibeachlovers said: Given that Russia probably invaded Ukraine to stop it joining NATO, one has to wonder if the leaders of NATO are morons or just stupid? Not sure either of these terms, "morons or stupid" is scathing enough to be honest. https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/nato-chief-admits-expansion-behind-russian-invasion Western/NATO leaders knew exactly what was likely coming and didn't care. They probably believed they would win out through sanctions rather than provoking a protracted war with a nuclear superpower. They even sabotaged the negotiations in Istanbul persuading Ukraine to abandon signing a draft agreement to end the conflict with Russia. Unfortunately things have not turned out their way, now they are trapped. No off-ramp without a serious loss on their hands. As it's now election season in the US, I expect the current administration will do whatever they can to prolong the conflict until November, send more money, damn the consequences, destruction and body count. Some additional historical details in this opinion piece by Jeffrey Sachs. https://www.commondreams.org/opinion/nato-chief-admits-expansion-behind-russian-invasion 1 3 1 1
transam Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Good idea, the ordinary Russian folk know they cannot deal with NATO, Putin, up till now can't even deal with Ukraine, I know Ukraine is using the West's hi-tech stuff, but to deal with NATO in its entirety, I would think would be foolish. Russia needs another moderate leader, not a bloke that thinks the place is still communist......🥴 1 1

I think you will find that Ukraine was trying to join NATO as a barrier to stop Russia/Putin from invading them, not NATO wanting to expand in order to let them invade Russia. NATO is a defensive treaty/organisation and not a war mongering Putin Dictated state!! 3 2 1

Had I said what I really think the post would likely have been deleted. I'm not sure if they are trying to get their politicians to agree to a NATO force in Ukraine, or not, but IMO military at that level like to have a bit of a real conflict going on. Much more chance of a few medals etc, and they won't be the ones going home in a bag. Just sending bullets for someone else to fire doesn't get them any kudos. 1 3 2
