Rionoir
I talked to a foreigner who pointed out that photographer is a profession closed to foreigners (huh? lol)... but he said that he had been able to get a special permit to do so through some organization. Does anyone know if this is difficult to do, or should I basically never hope to work as a photographer there?

I'm not one of the advisors (I'm also a photographer) but was wondering if you are just planning to take pictures or to sell them?
TheChiefJustice
Perhaps you might contact this photographer who lives and works in Thailand and ask him how he does it. It appears that he is accredited as an "official press photographer" by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Perhaps that sort of accreditation may be helpful.
