On Thursday, police at the Royal Palace Police Station near the Grand Palace, trainees and passersby helped revive a Swiss tourist who passed out from heat stroke. Later, the Swiss man was removed by ambulance to a local hospital.

Tourist collapse sparks alarm as 72.6% of Thais fret over rising temperatures. Climate change looms large amid a scorching heatwave.

Thailand is currently in the midst of a heatwave. Not surprising, given it is traditionally the hottest time of year in the kingdom. On Thursday, a Swiss tourist passed out and had to be revived by police near the Grand Palace in the capital. The scene comes with Thai meteorologists and academics warning that the country is facing a future of higher temperatures. An official survey published over the weekend shows that 72.6% of the Thai public are now either moderately or severely concerned about the trend.

On Thursday, in Bangkok, outside the Grand Palace, police were called upon to intervene when an elderly tourist passed out due to the heat.

Amidst the sweltering hot weather created by Bangkok’s unrelenting April sun, the poignant moment unfolded outside the Royal Palace Police Station. It offered a glimpse of humanity coping with the growing challenges posed by climate change.

The 72-year-old Swiss tourist was overcome by the scorching temperatures. He collapsed not once, but twice, in front of the precinct.

It's the hot season. 35 to 42c is to be expected. Keep in the shade, drink plenty of cold fluids. If elderly or susceptible, then stay in air conditioned environments. Sensible precautions. Does it ever get this hot in Switzerland Mr Suisse?

FWIW: My Cambodian GF is bringing her elderly parents from rural Cambodia to coastal Thailand for a few weeks to relax and avoid these high temperatures.

Eh yeah - it's hot season.  Tuesday was in 40 degreees of heat and flew to Switzerland - bloody snowing! Three degrees at best. Often in the summer the weather in Switzerland is hotter than than it is in Thailand. Any chance we can stop OVER-REACTING when it gets a little warm?

The old guy should know better.

Just being a nuisance, only a fool would go out in this heat.

If you are elderly, don't come to Thailand in the hot months.

Sightseeing early mornings, or evenings.

It's hot all over the country and has been for a few weeks, only a fool could deny it. What is happening in Switzerland is irrelevant beyond telling us the contrast  that the poor guy felt. Haven't felt heat like this for a few years but do recall some times when it was equally as hot.... more of the same, and a degree or two higher according to an app on my phone......

40 years ago I was living in a village outside Khon Kaen. If the temperature hit 35 that was already thought to be seriously hot . Never saw any day hotter than 35.

Conversely,  in the cool season it was often really cold and in the mornings it was not unusual to see any puddles frozen with an ice crust. You don't see that either these days.

No one can tell me it’s comfortable in hot season!🤦🙅🏼‍♂️👎

You guys are mean.  Some elderly tourist comes to Thailand to spend some money and do some sightseeing.  He doesn't have a clue about how the heat can affect a person because he is from Switzerland and passes out.  You should have some sympathy, he could have died.   You & I know better, but a tourist is not as informed.   Give the guy a break.

Headache, cramps and constipation are the result of dehydration. Drink plenty of water/fluids and stay hydrated.  The many drinkers of Pattaya  who drink copious amounts of beer shouldn't have a problem there.

No thermometers aren't rigged. It's the people reading them and estimating temperatures from the ones that are out of service. There are many and mostly in the US. All depends who counts the ballots, I mean reads the thermometer. On second thought we could blame it on the thermometers.

Perhaps it is global warming but it is a natural phenomenon. The earths climate fluctuates between ice ages and extreme heat with 'moderate' temperature in between over periods of millions of years. In Victorian times is was so cold that the Thames froze.

People need to be accountable for their actions, his actions have put others in danger.

Look at all the people affected by this guy being irresponsibile.

How about a thought for the helpers, poor buggers being out in the heat of the day.

Once the temperature hits mid 30s a fan just increases your discomfort . Like having a hair dryer on the hot mode blowing on you . Yesterday the temperature up here in Isaan was 41c . I had the Aircon on at 10 00 am all day and in my bedroom all night set at 25c . Most bars do not have Aircon but only fans . Makes drinking very uncomfortable I stay home with Aircon and ice cold beer . Big problem if there is a power cut . Either go for a ride in the car or go to a large supermarket . I have often seen Thai folk sat on the floor in a corner of a supermarket , eating , their brought with them , food  , like a picnic . Poor farmer people getting out of their village where no one has Aircon . In the 12 years staying in Thailand , this is definitely the hottest summer I have experienced . Some places in Issan forecast to hit 43 c later this week . Temperature to drop to 34-36 c May 6th ish .

Wait a minute, PLEASE, and do not say such things about us elderly.

I am slightly under this Swiss guy's age.

But, I have no problems walking 10 kilometers in the Noon-day Sun.

At noon, the humidity is lower, due to the higher temps, and THIS is the way I like it.

What I do is to enjoy more soy sauce on my food, and then drink water, before venturing forth to enjoy my long hot walks.

Start slow, and after a few years, you will be just like me.

Some, like me, like it Hot.

And talk BS, you are on here all day, yep and talking more of the same!!

The photo seems rather bizarre. Here is a guy obviously over heated, in serious trouble and everyone is standing there looking at him. And one guy has a piece of paper fanning him from a long ways away. ???
