Foreigner Assaults Phuket Tuk Tuk Driver Over Fare Disagreement

Featured Replies

Foreigners are kicking, biting, and punching the locals, often women and you wonder why the police are taking the victims side?

If the local isn't the victim, how are the police taking the victim's side by siding with the local?

Step away from your crushing bias and use your brain for a change.

I'd really like to hear the tourists side, before, like of you, jumping to any conclusions  we already know many tuk tuk drivers do scam tourists.

  • Obviously one more moron who doesn't believe that tuk tuk drivers have a reputation for trying to scam their customers?

always throw this garbage back in their face. These people throw out these comments to virtue signal but are they never going around handing out cash to taxi drivers? NEVER! it's always moral posturing to make themselves appear as better people than you are. So sick of it.

Innocent until proven guilty... or possible defamation.

"...the Brit was drunk and possibly new to Thailand..."

Where was that reported?

If you kick a woman, the woman is the victim.

If you bite a Thai, the Thai is the victim.

If you slap songkran revellers, security guards and taxi drivers then they are the victim.

If you molest a young student as their teacher the kid is the victim.

If you push a woman off a balcony then the woman is the victim.

If you run over a Thai and run off then the Thai is the victim.

It isnt my idea, it is just the way the law has evolved.

One of the worst aspects of all these assaults by the Brits is the endless victim blaming.

If you take a dump in public near Nana, well, then, everyone is just disgusted.

I had an discussion with a shop owner that the person at the counter did not gave me the correct exchange.
I had paid with a 1000 baht bill and received exchange on 500 baht.
The security camera was only about 5 meter away.
But the recorded clip was not clear and I didn't make a fuzz out of it.
Solution: I always carry a 500 baht bill with me in the future and avoided that scam.
No fight involved (maybe because I was not an Englishman).

I mention this before, I always speak loud and clear the money I give, for example when I have to pay 350 and give a note of thousend I say clear "one thousand bath"

The Brits in Thailand are a higher quality than the Brit tourists in Spain generally.

The Spainiards have had to put up with a lot and are quite jaded as a result.

How would you, an Australian, know that........?

Yeah. I'm sure it was a scam, that's why he went to the police 🙄 because you always involve the police when your swindle fails.

Actually, I've read several times over the years Thais doing exactly that, when their illegal activity has been topped by the illegal activity of another party. It happens when they are so accustomed to being crooks, they don't even recognise that what they are doing themselves is illegal. I'd suggest that many taxi/tuk tuk drivers in Phuket might fall into that category.

Easy when the request comes from a Phuket tuk-tuk driver, not from the police.

Colonel Khundet Na Nongkhai, Karon Police Chief, reported to the Phuket Express on Tuesday (April 30th) that Mr. Luke was apprehended at a hotel on Phi Phi Island by Koh Phi Phi and Karbi Tourist police.

The arrest was made following an arrest warrant issued by Phuket Kwaeng Court on charges of causing physical and mental harm to another individual.

The accused was moved to the Karon Police Station in Phuket. Colonel Khundet disclosed that Mr. Luke had neither made a statement nor entered a plea by press time, and declined to speak to the media.

That makes sense 😂 Beer swizzling foreign tourist with a propensity for violence must be given the benefit of the doubt 😂 then he declines to show up at the police station when summoned, so he was surely the victim of a scam 😂

Obviously you haven’t been in Thailand 5 minutes

Why would the driver accept 100 Baht for a 400 Baht fair? Why not show that section of the video? Why not show the Brit the money he paid with?

Fairly obvious why... 🙄

It depends how you define scam.

It's 100 baht, not 10 000 baht.

Is it fair that you were born in a western country where you can afford to fly to thailand 3 times a year and a baht bus driver makes a pittance?

Is it still a scam?

Why yes, yes it is a scam....

It seems quite normal for police in Thailand to be involved in the scams in tourist areas. They often help the scammer and tell the tourist to pay. They will also take the side of a local over a foreinger in most disputes.

Quite laughable that people think that the Thai going to the police is an indication of innocence

I think that is the main reason we hardly ever see these sorts of stories about Australians on Aseannow

I think the main reason you don’t see many of these kind of stories about Australians is they’re mainly doing it in Bali & we don’t see much Indonesian coverage on here…

What does this have to do with Thai police siding with locals against foreigners even when the foreinger is the victim?

It sounds like your self-loathing and projecting are preventing you from any hint of rational thought.

I hope the police asl to see the whole dash cam and not just the part which we have seen, perhaps on doing so the truth may be different.

Tuk tuk drivers in Phuket do have a reputation for rip off behaviour so it is very conceivable the Brit was scammed. If so, I can understand his reaction. I agree with an earlier comment whereby the video does pick up on a smirk from the driver as if to say “gotcha!!” Now he’s in the frame for financial compensation for being the victim. Only two people know the truth of what happened and one of them is a liar.
The Swiss Dave incident has potentially opened up a whole new opportunity for scams of this nature. Not that I believe Dave was scammed but the outcries from his behaviour have got the tills ka-chinging all over the place.

Where was it shown that the driver accepted B100 as the fare? It looked as though he was wanting the full agreed amount to be paid.

In the few seconds of video that was shown, the driver (with the passengers hands around his throat and being slapped) didn't have much a chance to show it.
