In the southern Thailand district of Thung Yang Daeng, Pattani, a violent gunfight took place that lasted four hours. It left two suspects dead and one officer injured. The fight took place on May 1.

The two individuals who died in the incident were identified as Masobree from Yala and Asahar from Pattani. Authorities found an array of weapons in the house where the fight took place, which included an M16, an AK-47, and two handguns.

Special forces from Pattani province had cordoned off the area around 4 pm after getting tips about suspicious individuals hiding in the Nam Dam area of Thung Yang Daeng. They were accompanied by three additional units. The officers evacuated civilians from the area and tried negotiating with the suspects with the help of community, local, and religious leaders. However, the situation worsened when the suspects started shooting at the authorities.

After the gunfight ended, authorities found the two bodies along with the weapons inside the rental property. This suggests that the suspects had planned for a violent fight.

KhaoSod reported that the incident led to a thorough forensic investigation by the Evidence Collection Team 10. The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Front sent their condolences to the families of the dead individuals.

Local authorities are asking people to report suspicious activities by calling the Fourth Army Region Commander or the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 at 061-173-2999 or the emergency hotline at 1341. The public is also reminded that helping criminals by providing them with shelter or supplies is also a criminal act under Section 189 of the Penal Code. This act is punishable by up to two years in prison, or a fine of up to 40,000 baht (US$1,000), or both.
