Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul accuses his Bhumjaithai party of being deceived in parliament concerning a bill related to the decriminalisation of cannabis. Despite passing the initial reading, the bill has faced obstruction, leaving the party feeling misled.

 

Anutin emphasizes the medical benefits of cannabis, urging opponents to provide evidence of any negative effects. The absence of clear regulations governing cannabis usage presents a significant challenge.

 

The authority to reclassify cannabis rests with the Narcotic Prevention and Suppression Board and the Narcotic Control Committee.

 

Although no longer overseeing the Ministry of Public Health, Anutin remains a member of the Narcotic Prevention and Suppression Board and pledges to provide scientific evidence supporting the benefits of cannabis.

 

The final decision on cannabis classification lies in the hands of the board and the Narcotic Control Committee.

 

Existing cannabis retailers operate under the Ministry of Public Health's regulations, as confirmed by Anutin.

Anutin Concerned About Reclassifying Cannabis in Thailand

Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, expressed concerns regarding the proposal to reclassify cannabis as a type 5 illegal narcotic drug.

 

This proposal came after Prime Minister Srettha spoke about narcotics issues and suggested the reclassification. Anutin emphasized the need for thorough research by the Ministry of Public Health before such a decision is made.

 

He highlighted the previous government's decriminalization of cannabis in 2022, mentioning the lack of legal regulations for its control.

 

Anutin raised the question of whether re-criminalizing cannabis would be wise, considering the release of over 6,000 convicts on cannabis-related charges since decriminalization.

 

He stressed the importance of basing decisions on medical evidence rather than personal views or politics.

 

Additionally, Anutin addressed concerns about the impact of this reclassification on the popularity of the Bhumjaithai Party, emphasizing that they fulfilled their promise to decriminalize cannabis.

 

However, he pointed out that it is the current government that holds the policy-making authority. Anutin affirmed that the party would present logical and evidence-based arguments to advocate for the benefits of cannabis.

 

The discussions surrounding the potential reclassification of cannabis in Thailand are likely to be contentious and complex.

His motive for decriminalising it was purely political.

How much is he making out of cannabis?

We have a similar situation in the UK, they have proposed measures to reduce tobacco smoking, but a certain politician is paid way more (by BAT) than the taxpayer pays him to stop it from happening. The same was happening when he was health supremo.

They do not know what the people want .

So why not hold a referendum ?

Let the Thai people decide .

There are good points and bad ones , but , as long as alcohol is allowed , and meth is tolerated in small quantities , criminalizing Cannabis again would be pure hypocrisy .

In Switzerland , they use to hold referendums and ask the population what they want ...

Why not in the Thailand ?

That’s what I thought pm doesn’t really have any say in the matter as legitimate news sources are saying so I wouldn’t worry about it it’ll be here forever and even if the shops did close they’ve been allowing people to grow it for years since like 2019, it ain’t going anywhere.

You mis-report what Anutin actually said. Anyway, if I was a Thai, I would support him to be PM.

BREAKING: Interior Minister Anutin Charnveerakul said on Thursday the many foreigners owning marijuana shops must be arrested. The remark came after PM Srettha Thavisin announced a crackdown on drugs on Tuesday and pushing to recriminalize marijuana for recreational purposes.

Says you! 5555. It's an eyesore... Neon signs and Ganga signs everywhere in Pattaya.. Hua Hin.. Phuket... Its more visual pollution. Many coffee shops now are selling the stuff... and smoking it. I don't like cigarette smoke of ANY kind. Why should I breathe in that sht?

Ok, I apologise for mis-reporting what Anutin said. Would you care to inform me what he actually said?

 

Ok so basically the pm can talk about what “he wants to do” till he’s blue in the face but ultimately he has no say in it. Anutin as a member of the Narcotics board still has the power and decision making authority 😁. By the way the legitimate news media was very specific about that. Look at the news articles about it on google with a VPN for accurate information that you won’t get from this sight. 

He's got more badges, wings & squiddly diddley's than a Co-Co Pops packet can handle.
