An abandoned elevator outside the Pattaya Redemptorist Technological College for People with Disabilities, also known as the Phra Mahatai Centre, has been fixed. It now stands ready to improve access on Sukhumvit Road.

The repaired elevator symbolizes a new era of inclusivity, providing a safe route for people navigating the busy road. It holds promise for people with disabilities, the elderly, and young children, ensuring they can get around the city comfortably and with dignity.

Unfortunately, many flashy infrastructure projects in Pattaya tend to fall into disrepair soon after their high-profile launches, leaving locals stuck in a maze of unfulfilled promises.

However, there's a silver lining. Amid these disappointments, the Redemptorist Centre for Persons with Disabilities has stood out. They led the charge to fix the elevator, catching the attention of Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, who promised to correct past mistakes.

Reacting to the charity’s demands, Mayor Poramet directed the city's Engineering Department to look into the failures of the overpass design, and to identify the reasons why the elevator broke down, according to the Pattaya Mail.

The mayor made a commitment to steadfastly improve the city’s infrastructure and spare no expense to prevent future problems.

Why was it 'abandoned' or did it just stop working ?, how long has it been out of order ?

If this mayor serious go to dept and person who is in charge of maintenance of elevator

" your fired "  not transfered.

Then he finds out the person is connected Mayor backtracks back to normal business of sitting in his office doing nothing like those before him.🤑

To be a world class family resort with the cleanest image in all Thailand, it takes a little more than maintaining anything.

Yes, very much more the point. How any years prior did they actually not give a shxt about the 'people with disabilities'.........

I expect that after a few days or weeks it will all be forgotten and the elevator will remain broken, or if it is fixed the next time it breaks down it will be ignored.

Pattaya has never been disabled friendly.

Hardly anywhere in Thailand is disabled friendly, the Main banks have huge flights of stairs, cross bridges, footpaths-high curbs.

A new era? Only in Pattaya? Or everywhere in Thailand? What about to start first make it possible for pedestrians and wheel chairs to go on proper pavements instead to stumble upon bricks or holes or parked motorbikes or electric cables dangling in your way?🙏

Not disagreeing, but don't banks have elevators from ground level? Can't imagine them carrying everything up and down those stairs.

No, they do carry everything up and down I have never seen any access in any bank for disabled, unless in a mall or street level.
