What happens to a thread is down to member behaviour, almost exclusively. I don't think any moderator wants to remove posts but often there is no choice. More often than not, removal involves more than one moderator, that reduces the degree of subjectivity (or whim) to an absolute minimum.

Why the heck would someone want to submit to  precog scanning of their "pre crime"

Because they have the power of foresight and don't want to pollute the forum with low IQ, drunken comments.

Yes agree 100%  happened to me many times...it should be common courtesy to inform the poster directly that thier post has been deleted or modified...after all the poeple posting here are the content makers...without posters there is no content and eventually no forum.

You've got to be trolling because no one is this stupid. At any given time there are fifty active threads on this forum and you feel that the mods should be contacting every member, including deliberate flames and trolls, with a personal explanation as to why their comment was deleted?

Have you been drinking?

Being ratted on.

Well that's how it's supposed to work. If you bait/troll people then people should report you for that. Maybe stop baiting?

What do you guys think about my little idea for forum guidelines?

IMG_4344.jpeg

Are these suppossed to be "reply "responses ?

I saw a post I didn't agree with .... "who cares?" if we all agreed on everything we woud be in the Land of OZ

I didn't get offended   ..   why would anyone ?  unless they call "you" out specifically by name

I didn't comment ...   if you replied with this answer,,   you just did

I didn't feel the need to change their mind ..    who said it was your responsibility to do so ?   offering your opinion is always open

..but remember opinions are your view ..  not gospel

I still like the person ..  like who ? .. a randon nickname ? a profile picture ?

I just kept scrolling and went on with my day ...   hopefully with a grin on your face

More should practice this .... ???

I was under the impression that a Forum....An environment where participants can pose issues for discussion and respond to any contribution, thus creating threaded discussions that can spawn a discussion tree where the discussion branches out in many directions or subthreads.

andI would venture to say that many participants enjoy sharing their views,,  gives us something to do for a few minutes other than enjoy the sunshine and beauty  ..  a little social interaction is usually good,, some of the content and responses are down right hilarious ,, I can see how easily some people get tweeked when they are  responded to with a non agreeing answer .... I'm sure it's not personal ..     just a different opinion / view..

Keyboard Warriors ?  Telephone Toughguys ? I'll bet if you were able to actually meet some of these people you would find out you have a lot more in common than you think .....

We're here by choice....  keep smiling

Reporting trolls is not even ratting. Ratting usually involves some kind of betrayal of friends or people who belong to the same group. You are a stranger on the internet trolling people. If someone reports that it's not ratting, it's just house keeping - removing people who want to disrupt conversations and annoy others. If people don't do that then constructive people leave and things devolve into complete shttery pretty fast. There are other places on the web for that.

Mods should not be responding to their complaints

It's the old saying

'squeaky wheel gets the grease'

I reckon it would be a tough job, so many members reporting for trivial things, some guys here have nothing to do all day, they just moan and complain.

Let's allow the Mods to have an ignore member option, there's lots of time wasters here.

The point is not to inform the forum members - the point is to inform the member whjo made the deleted or modified post (only).  If you can post a notice telling everyone that a post was removed, you can send a note to that member whose post it was.  Many reasons to do that - the main one being to make sure we dont have Mods acting as Gods deleting whatever they dont agree with and abusing their power by saying it was 'argumentaive' or 'unrelated' or any other reasons their cognitive bias can apply to justify their own person opinions.

If a moderator sends a PM to the member, the member then invariably responds and begins to debate issues or raise other things. Those PM's require a response and before you know it, there have been four or five PM's flying back and forth, just because a post was removed. Multiply that by X members and it all becomes very labour intensive. That is very very common and is the main reason why moderators are loathe to do it.

Members who are overly argumentative rarely understand that they are being so, mostly because they are so absorbed by the subject of their debate......can't see wood for trees springs to mind.

Well said - if not well typed 🙂

IMO AN should adopt the strategy of X/Twitter - unless it is illegal then it is allowed. I dont like X/Twitter much and rarely go there but I liked how Musk got get rid of those rules that allowed 'mods' to remove and delete posts they politically or socially disagreed with - and he got rid of them too. Too many TV/AN Mods (past and present) think they are the arbitrators of what is acceptable and what is not - when it fact some of them have severe cognitive bias. Unless it is illegal then let it go - if anyone is trolling the members can manage them (block their posts).  The Mods that are needed are the 'experts' who help Expats with advice and guidance - they should not be spending all done looking for and finding posts to delete - or dealing witrh complaints from vindictive members (tell the vindictive ones to block the person and go away).

That is the role of the Moderator, that's why they exist, it's their primary function, why are you so surprised.
