Now, leaving WinDoze, and for the rest of my Daze, NEVER to return, thank the gods!

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to share with you how GREAT it is to be leaving Microsoft for Linux, and for the rest of my natural born days, on this planet, called Earth, the Third Planet from the Sun, if I am not completely mistaken.

So, anyway, in case you might wish to know, I have a few computers, and all were mostly running Windows, although....in the case of Windows, they were not really running, but mostly just walking, or strolling, or shambling and shuffling along, in a very awkward way.

So....why I am I so very happy this evening?

I am happy because, being a very lazy person, I had delayed the switch to openSUSE for very many months.

And, I really do not know why, but this evening....seemed to have been the day for it.

I am now about half-way through the process of migrating everything from Windows to Linux, openSUSE, and this computer is now up and RUNNING a MEAN-STREAK, by comparison to what it was doing under Windows 10.

I will not upload any screenshots here of the SUBLIME BEAUTY of my new desktops.

Suffice to say, Windows is UGLY, and Linux is ALWAYS Beautiful, just from an aesthetic point of view.

Also, I have already noticed that my Windows 10 computer, 10 years old, is now rejuvenated, and risen from the dead, like Lazarus and Jesus, COMBINED!

I hope everyone reading these words will take another THINK, and follow my lead.

You will NOT look back, once you take the plunge.

I only delayed, as I say, because I am often just a LAzy gUY.

You know, Guys, that I had originally thought to wait until June 12th, just to install LEAP 15.6....but....

That would be foolish on my part.

LEAP 15.5 is already just about as stable as it gets.

Better for me to wait for LEAP 15.6 until JULY 12th, and let the fools who install it, on Public Release Date, to F-around with the Bugs, which there are bound to be some, by the way.

So, I will just use 15.5, and wait in my cave....until....maybe AUGUST or SEPTEMBER, 2024.

I ain't no dummy, you see, and on the contrary....

I am a Genius, by comparison to any dummy.

BUT...SERIOUSLY, GUYS.....

The more of us who get ourselves free of the Microsoft Machine....

The better for ALL of Mankind....

The more users of Linux Desktop, then the more developers will pay attention to our needs, and ....

It will just begin to SNOWBALL.....

But, of course....I realize....THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN....

Too many rats in the maze who know not how to get out, and enjoy PURE FREEDOM.

What does this LACK OF FREEDOM FROM THE MACHINE actually look like in FILM?

Of course, you know,....but....just in case you have forgotten, by now....

This is what the Machine looks like...in Film.....

I will NOT, no longer, be a party to THIS!

Just a few minutes of work....

Just a few dollars to buy a new SSD...and....now....I am....

FREE

Free at last.

God Almighty.....i AM

fREE AT last......!

bEST rEGARDS.....

NOTE:  I just installed LEAP 15.5 on this new SAMSUNG 500GB drive....which...is....

Enough for me.

Important ADDENDUM to the OP, which I forgot to include in the original OP:

a.  Here you can see the specs of my OLD system, which I purchased from JIB, about 9 years ago, at a CM JIB shop....

AP1GczMPmKv1IbKMs7O_izvfrLWUBknpQ0lHXueXncE_x76nniZRphf9SjRdGXLw4SHnE_M_CuYVqdyMn5UqD0gWfEHXCb_WqMEzo3kDhFnETBArLVrjX0AxTjXAo8s4KURO95WpOZHKlCRzLjch4u59pvNCnZ6o2diivwC9PJUIsF9-7TJIBnFEKzsGZVAY5MR0HxZlOAmvfGXqEMtv7_DROQdasJKaQYuASEfoXQCkwacu3loXh4E-8-1A0D-uBY5FBpByutqGGScRoFztqgFCV31cKfx2mXRcLKYraZqU0jmXkYXwJ4MEEWULK3tdC29YOibFbd9nteK_T04u0IY0g20QLm387njCAsKuDexjKNYufhAIaiQyczgmvPt1lBTLQpWa19mp1ivhIlRtFfWYXJq5p7Mz5EsDWS4LuC6hf9k2j7mKKKURHT7gLQbR90GOOxWYuEDutrMW2BA_7Q_CHpc3bKcx_x5zhq1Pzaf-r4ALCnLYMLVhul0feOyQhRZyUR893Xz-xK4thgvE8JNdWFyMU1kN9LMvRowidADkPxbnyfhyNte-qQF6_4Fcyv3mqk_zB7a8aAonaYMpNXUIMSLJuHlIjiyju-aH5faO1gOlp8jXUYrlxJ9jermB1v9tOFAHeb5ZX6DV7XEpvfJSzgnYJqXbgP173nVPYATkf94zLH_d-8eN2eOBJ2mOAY6HtqQWmYGiukFcGyKYQPpWSUKW7PV0KrclTCNNFkSDx-z6vATmOwwsmDxtdRqulFi0RbzHrIbKBTFOPZJv_3KINiJTwhxDAvlusjwhORonaof-FSHS5qAFs1uVgI8RCSHcnYE5kZQetGFxHOo2BQal6XpHe4aR5QDr1MAyMLBEQ8IP4X1crDxdJfLXrDsCbl3o0Lp-2wC3HO7Ov6HiWuGXHsLtRI0x=w1765-h993-s-no-gm?authuser=0

b.  Using Windows, this old architecture was so slow that it gave me a migraine, almost every day.

c.  Earlier this evening, I swapped out the original 500GB SAMSUNG SSD, and replaced it with a new SAMSUNG SSD.

d.  Then, I installed openSUSE on the new SSD.

e.  Now, this FING old comp is BLAZING FAST!  It's like an entirely new BEAST, in fact.

f.  So, I am just saying....IF you want a WHOLE NEW computer, without buying any new hardware, and you want to do basic tasks, at lightning speed, such as browsing the web, or posting on TV, ...

Then...my best advice to you is to do what I did......

Just install openSUSE and you will have that......

SECRET SMILE.....

g.  Truly, SUSE, provided to us from those panzer-heads, is totally worth its weight in gold....

========

I know you think I might be joking, or something.....but I am NOT.....

This is just the way I write.....and....

Everything I have written in this addendum is true.

I am SUPER HAPPY to have gotten off my duff and, finally, once and forever, replaced the Windows OS with Linux, by openSUSE....

Try it....!

It's SO easy....and....

I think you will like it......

Take care, Guys.....

Best to you.....

Regards,

Gamma G.

PS:  My new computer with 64GB of RAM, and a very-fast CPU, runs even faster on Linux....but....I have not...yet....

Begun to plumb the depths of the fastness of my new computer.....

Nobody likes slow.....

And, Windows is slow....

As everyone knows......

Addendum to the Addendum:

Sorry, but I could not resist mentioning the HISTORY of SUSE.....as I have lived it, during the past 20-plus years.....

When I first began using SUSE, I was a spring chicken, compared to what I have now turned into....after so many hard years.

When I first began using SUSE, it was not as easy to install and use as it is now, especially since I was installing it on several very old computers, even by 2000 standards.

The computers I was using, in 2000 were just junk computers that nobody wanted.

Yet, if one waiting long enough, SUSE would still install, after about 48 hours, or so.

I still recall, even to this day, when some major company, was it IBM or Novel, invested about 6 Billion in SUSE.  (Haha, why don't you check the amount and the facts.)  Anyway, I clearly recall when SUSE got a huge infusion of cash, and then SUSE became a contender....

SUSE, before this cash infusion, just weighed about 168 pounds.....!

You remember that????

SUSE could never have been SOMEBODY without Novel, or maybe IBM, or .....

image.png.8f125ec6bddae7a64cd7c3b145c71e22.png

So, I am just saying.....

Some guys wonder why I stay with SUSE.

But, they do not know my history with SUSE.

You just can't give up on a beautiful GF, EVER....

image.png.c5d1281eb4c3776b8a9a93dbfe061792.png

The year, 2006, might just be any date to most of you.

But, to me, this was a landmark for SUSE.

image.png.1a2395556836dc10ca666530d2ea2725.png

To some of you, the history of SUSE is something you might just read in books.

But, to me....

I lived through these years, together with SUSE, always rooting for this great Linux Software company....

For me, it would be like losing my right arm, to switch to any other Distro.

I will go to my grave with the banner of SUSE held high!

For sure!

And, anyone attempting to convince me to try RedHat....will need to tear the SUSE lizard from my cold, dead....

Hands!

image.png.aee6ef67776d6a38046ed0aa3ccdcf4e.png

Note:  The SUSE Linux history is an interesting one, in case anyone might be interested.  I LIVED the history, in the news, during the past 25 years....  So, I feel it in the bones of my lizard, which is just as hard as it ever was, thanks to SUSE Linux!

image.png.dd6d1f94c2d7163d3f1167e0e017a12c.png

I will NEVER leave SUSE.

Addendum to the Addendum of the Addendum:

Well, just how long have I stuck with SUSE?

It's like this:

a.  Think of the development of SUSE as if SUSE were an olive.

b.  As the olive goes from it's earliest stage to full maturity...it changes color....

c.  And, I am just saying that I was there....almost...at the beginning.....

Like This!

image.png.a3deeaa6dbd9a94a837f3ef1c1a28051.png

These days....

SUSE is RIPE.....

No longer...ANY excuse for me to not use SUSE...instead of.....

Any Microsoft product.

I ain't lying.

And, I am not grandstanding.

I am not joking.

I have now gone over to the white side.....

(i.e., white hats vs grey hats, such as MS, etc....)

NOTE:  I was there from almost the beginning....

By the way, Man!

If you are moving from Windows to Linux, then....you must be willing to do a bit of googling....in order to get things working right....

Shifting from one OS to another OS always takes a bit of ADJUSTMENT in ATTITUDE.......

Also, as a beginning drummer, one cannot expect to play an amazing TOAD, right out of the box.....

It always takes a bit of practice....

Here is a toad for you....and...do you think this drummer could play this TOAD out of the cradle?  NO!

NO!!!!!!

For example.....

I have been using SUSE since.....

image.png.f1ad14d699e301d815c96d82fe9703ae.png

Since version 5.1......

So....I guess I am just.....

USED to it by now.

You just gotta ask yourselves.....

Why would I, a genius in my own right, stick with SUSE....if....it were not.....

Up to Snuff?

Just an UPDATE to my Addendum, here:

I am now on my 4th installation of openSUSE, and.....IMHO....almost anyone can install openSUSE...

Standing on their heads....

Even a trained monkey can install openSUSE on any modern desktop computer.

a.  Man Standing on his head has the ability to install openSUSE....!

image.png.a2f4e93f57aee7272a158455a96dcbd4.png

b. Chimp can install openSUSE, too... (So then, why can't you?)

image.png.1a23f2d119cd3755af0159267cee3c8b.png

c.  Or, has Microsoft Corporation got you running scared?

Think about it.

d.  Do you want to use an OS flogged by that BABOON, Steve Ballmer?

Sure, he says he does not throw chairs at employees....but....

Do you believe him?

F-U.... Steve

I hate a guy who sweats too much.

e.  SUSE is sane, and Ballmer is CRAZY....

It UPS to you, as the b-girls say, in Thailand.....

You decide.....

I will go with the LIZARD, as the lesser of two evils....

f.  4th installation of openSUSE, this evening....not one hitch, either....(But, I am just a monkey, of course.)

Linux Desktop would spread, like wildfire, around the world....

Me and Negroponte, and a few others.....

In the end, Gates thought this a very bad idea....

Lottery Tickets, just as WIN OS, is a tax on either the poor, or the stupid.....

This is just the way it is, ...

Jobs lived by the fruit.

And, Jobs DIED by the fruit.....

Let's all not take an example from this fruit, please....!

image.png.cd5e9dd81bbed61686eaabddea2072c1.png

Jobs was a COMPLETE CONTROL FREAK....and...his IDIOTIC ethos lives on, which is his NUTTY legacy to the world.

In some ways, this idiotic founder of the Fruity Computer Company...was....just like....Howard Hughes...though less likable.

Hughes was a flawed genius who was loved by many.

Jobs was a Goose, loved by none.

Jobs was fixated on EVERYTHING related to fruit, and fruits.

Even the Mormons didn't cotton to Jobs.

If you really want to know what Jobs was like, then just take a listen to the discussion between Gates and Jobs.....

Gates is a good guy.

Jobs, was a psychopath....by comparison....

Anyway....the MAIN reason these guys made so much money, and got filthy rich, is not because they brought anything new to the world, in terms of science.

Their only claim to fame and wealth was their ability to market products made possible by the science and technology developed by REAL scientists, and government funding for the science.

They think that they are whiz kids....but.....

In truth...they are nothing but JIZZ kids, compared to the real scientists that actually developed the science and technology upon which they profited.

Two A-holes....compared to the scientists who actually did the grunt work.

IF you use Apple products.....then....IMHO....YOU...are...a....

Good riddance to this bad rubbish.

He harmed many more than he helped.

He even harmed HIMSELF through his idiotic non-science approach to his cancer treatment, eating FRUIT......

But, we don't know if he was eating apples, or some other purple berry....

He died early, as a result of his ignorance, and stupidity.

Good riddance to this Control Freak.

Hopefully, young people, these days, will not see this megalomaniac as a suitable role model, in the future.

Jobs should have stayed in India....!

And, these days, any sensible person should shun ALL Apple products, and all Apple services.

But, will people listen?

Apple is still strangely popular in China, among the "new rich", who see Apple phones and Apple laptops as some sort of SICK status symbol....

Apple products are NOTHING MORE THAN.....Jewelry...if you really want to know.....

I am now about half-way through the process of migrating everything from Windows to Linux, openSUSE, and this computer is now up and RUNNING a MEAN-STREAK, by comparison to what it was doing under Windows 10.

Now if you'd debloated your Windows from the start and kept it that way, tuned it up, and turned off all the apps running in the background, then it'd be running much, much faster, possibly comparable to OpenSUSE KDE. It isn't a lightweight distro for rejuvenating old hardware. That said, Linux does tend to outperform Windows in new installations, though you may not really notice enough to get excited about.

Out of the box, they're comparable. Linux offers far more possibilities for immediate customization. With some effort, however, Windows can look as good as you want to look.

Have you ever used an Apple desktop?  The included software really makes so many things easy that require third party software/hardware on other systems.

I just learned one very smooth method to create PDF's of paper documents using my iPhone together with MacOS.  Now I can declutter my desk and file cabinets quickly and without needing to buy a scanner or software.  I can just take my iPhone and docs out to the living room where there is ample natural light, snap a shot of each page and the PDF is automagically created on my desktop in the office.

I agree that Jobs was not a pleasant person in many regards, but he definitely brought some great products to fruition.

I have two flatbed scanners.

Without a flatbed scanner, how could I copy War and Peace, and save to my computer?

In fact, I have uploaded here hundreds of pages of Chinese Language Textbooks.....but I forget under which comment I uploaded.

The best software for scanning I have found is:

This will do better than using your phone as a scanner, FOR SURE.

Well....That didn't take long....did it....!

Everything just WORKS with Linux, SO MUCH BETTER than that Fruity OS!

VueScan is OK....but....one might imagine....there might be even better scanner software for Linux, unavailable to Apple users.....

No Doubt!

Please note:

As you say, Apple is for idiots who don't really want to spend time monkeying around with software....

So, as you say, maybe VueScan is not for everybody...

Still, I used it in the past...and....

It was far easier and more functional than the Canon software that is provided with the Canon flatbed scanners.

And, it is multiplatform....

I guess there are better offerings...but.....

VueScan should be enough for most users, unless you are scanning something.....RIDICULOUS.....

Note:  The only reason I post this is just that I have used it in the past, and was impressed.  And, it's not expensive to buy.....

Note:  Is there something better for the money?

Note2:  Here is a review of VueScan from PCMAG....

So, as you can see....

This is the best scanner software for me.

I do not worry about the steep learning curve, because...I have used this software in the past, and I liked it.

Also, I have too much time on my hands.  And so, I like software which has a steeper learning curve.

In addition, I do not worry about not having enough RAM for the images I like to scan.  My computer has 64GB of RAM.  This is enough for most very-large images, although, of course, NOT the LARGEST images....

For Example:  There are a few super-large images coming from Space which are even larger than my small computer can handle.  I do not mean Mars.  I mean...DEEP SPACE.

There are images which are sent from space that require even more than 64GB of RAM....

There's altogether too much software requiring a too large investment of time up front.

Hopefully my current passion will bear fruit and I can learn how to make my home smarter and efficient.  Currently the home automation landscape is very fractured and the path to building heterogenous systems still passes through a minefield.

Good Luck, to you Sir!

Chok Di!

I feel your pain!

And, I just hope that....one day...in the not too distant future.....

These girls can, also, get their FRACTURED landscape up to par.....

Hopefully, they will be able to buy some heterogeneous systems that might help them, along their path....

Through the minefield, which IS their lives, doubtlessly.....

By the way, as you can see from this photo of my home....

We just LOVE Garlic!

Just like winblows the post has too much bloatware

Did you ever stop to consider that....

Although Negroponte's One-Laptop-Per-Child scheme might have failed....

Still....

Linux is alive and well for All God's Chillun ....

In the form of cheap smartphones, available to some of the poorest children, around he world.

There are so many valid reasons to love Linux...and....opensource software....

Even in your refrigerator....

Someday, maybe....

All God's Chillun will have a Linux Laptop......

The Dream is STILL alive.....

(Just takes more time than we thought, maybe....)

Not much difference, except that Gates has a far better sense of humor, and is far smarter, too.

OPENSOURCE holds out MUCH hope for the world....unless....

You got your copyright, and your IP, barring the way to faster progress.....right?

So, who cannot but feel a bit jaded, at this late stage in the game.

Nothing will change, until change is forced upon us.....And, no need to wait too long for that, either....

Batten down the hatches....

It's going to get a bit bumpy soon....

And, nobody cares about Linux, either!
