Popular Post webfact Posted May 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted May 20, 2024 Mastercard's latest "Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries" report has positioned Bangkok in the prestigious list of top 10 summer vacation destinations globally. This accolade is based on an extensive analysis of Mastercard transaction data from 74 markets, highlighting Bangkok's growing appeal to international travellers over the coming months. During a recent online press conference, David Mann, Mastercard's Chief Economist for Asia Pacific, shared optimistic insights about Thailand's tourism sector. "Thailand's tourism is nearly back to full strength, with visitor numbers just 7% shy of pre-pandemic levels. Given its popularity in the Asia Pacific region, we anticipate that Thailand will see a full recovery by 2024," said Mann. The report underscores Bangkok's role as a frontrunner in tourism, especially within the South Asia and Middle East regions. The city sees a significant influx of tourists from China and Malaysia. Since 2019, inbound flight traffic from South Asia and the ASEAN region has surged by almost 20%, reflecting a robust rebound in travel demand. Adding to Bangkok's allure is its reputation as a favourite for extended stays. This trend is driven by the city's affordability and favourable exchange rates, attracting visitors eager to immerse themselves in the local culture. Extended stays often translate to increased spending, providing a boost to the local economy. Thailand's position in the global travel landscape looks promising, with compelling reasons for tourists to visit. As the country edges closer to a full recovery, Bangkok stands out as a beacon, drawing travellers to its dynamic blend of traditional charm and modern attractions. Korat Kiwi Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Bangkok as a top 10 destination for summer? Maybe true for Malaysia and Chinese tourists but I could think of a lot other places I'd rather visit over summer. Smog and congestion of Bangkok would be at the bottom of my list. 2

So fly into Bangkok, use your card to get some local currency before moving on and Bangkok can say it's in the top 10 for visitors? 2 1
