A 21-year-old Myanmar national was arrested for a brutal samurai sword attack in Bangkok, leaving a teenager critically injured. The altercation reportedly stemmed from mockery, pushing the assailant to retaliate with alarming violence.

Earlier today, Bang Khun Thian police, led by Major General Prasong Anomanee, detained Ye Min Htit following an urgent report of a knife attack near the busy Bang Bon market. The altercation, which took place around 4:20 PM yesterday, left a 17-year-old boy, referred to as A, fighting for his life after being struck with a 50-centimetre-long samurai sword.

Witnesses and friends of the victim described the horrifying sequence of events. They recounted how a verbal spat broke out at a traffic light intersection, escalating rapidly. Enraged by the taunting, Ye Min Htit allegedly sprinted towards the group and threw the sword, which ultimately lodged in the victim’s abdomen. Desperate for help, the victim’s friends immediately sought assistance from nearby rescue workers.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured teenager to Mali Hospital, where he is currently undergoing critical care. The attacker managed to flee briefly but was later apprehended at Suk Sawat market.

During interrogation, Ye confessed to the crime, citing relentless taunting as the trigger for his violent outburst. "I couldn’t stand the taunting anymore, so I threw the sword," he stated.

Ye faces multiple charges, including assault causing serious injury, illegal possession of a weapon, and illegal entry into Thailand. Authorities are now preparing to initiate legal proceedings against him.

This alarming incident underscores the dangers of unresolved conflicts among teenagers and highlights the pressing need for effective conflict resolution methods to prevent such violence. Bang Khun Thian police have called for community vigilance and cooperation to enhance public safety and avoid similar future incidents.

Which I just happened to have at hand?

The two swords of the samurai, katana and wakizashi, are together known as daisho and are worn inserted in the belt with the edge facing upwards. The myanmar guy uses the wakizashi sword. The shorter one.

That's good info to know when getting attacked by a homicidal maniac with a wakizashi sword, I'll definitely be better prepared. 🫡
