looks like the map recommended by the OP is old/inaccurate.

close to my home in bangkok there is a canal - which on this map is shown as 2 parallelly run canals. Also some small sois are missing

I agree that it is far from perfect.

As a general and easy to use reference it works best. I can jump from my land in the country, to my present Bangkok apartment, to a new area of Bangkok I don't know well, folow a train route, etc, very quickly. It gives me a good basic perspective on area and distance.

With the speed and ease you lose detail and finite accuracy. I didn't make it...
