Popular Post webfact
A Burmese student ignited panic in Bangkok's Lat Phrao area after setting his condo room on fire. The event unfolded around 3 pm yesterday, causing considerable chaos among the building’s residents. Police Lieutenant Colonel Thewin Sripua, Deputy Inspector at Lat Phrao Police Station, received a distress call about a man causing a disturbance and initiating a fire on the eighth floor of a condominium in Khlong Chan, Bang Kapi. Upon arrival, officers were met with alarming shouts and thick smoke billowing out of the apartment. Identified as Phayae, a 24-year-old Burmese national and international student, the perpetrator was described by the condo's security guard as highly agitated and brandishing a knife. This behaviour threw the building's residents into a state of disarray and fear for their safety. “He was shouting and causing a commotion. We were worried about our safety,” a resident recounts, explaining the heightened alarm amid the combined threat of fire and a weapon. Picture courtesy: x-bomberth Police acted swiftly to contain the situation, apprehending Phayae without any resistance. The student is now facing charges related to public disorder and being intoxicated to the point of losing self-control. These charges initiate a legal process that may lead to more severe consequences depending on further investigations. In related, yet separate news, a tragic instance of domestic violence emerged from Buriram province. Last September, a 40-year-old woman named La set fire to her 73-year-old mother, Preeda, fuelled by a dispute over her drinking habits. That incident, occurring in Nong Hong District, highlights ongoing challenges of alcohol-fuelled violence in Thailand. Though seemingly unconnected, these instances underline critical social concerns. While Phayae’s condo blaze in Lat Phrao ended without physical injury, the emotional impact on the residents is significant. Law enforcement and community services continue to manage the broader implications of such disruptions to public peace. Georgealbert
A 70 year old lady was rescued, by firefighters, from another room and required hospital treatment for smoke inhalation, but suffered no serious injury. The student had to be rescued by responders as he was almost was almost lynched by the other residents, from the same building. It is doubtful that this type of apartment will have sprinklers fitted, but given that the room was destroyed by the fire, the corridor shows little damage, other than smoke. The original story is correct and states what has been in the english language media, My comment was not the related news, but the main story, in Bangkok's Lat Phrao. I have looked at a number of different Thai sources and my comment was meant just as further details on the incident.
