Election Commission Faces Criticism for Not Keeping Livestream Promise

Yingcheep Atchanont, who is the head of the Internet Dialogue on Law Reform (iLaw), has criticized the Election Commission (EC) for not following through with its commitment to livestream the final voting stage of the senatorial elections.

 

Atchanont stated the EC had previously ensured viewers could track the voting procedure live via CCTV from the voting halls. However, he pointed out that the broadcast had no sound, inhibiting viewers from keeping up with the process. Additionally, the footage only offered a single unchanging view, making the process unclear for observers.

 

 

Atchanont also highlighted that even though there were 20 CCTV cameras set up in the voting rooms, none were used for live streaming, causing confusion and frustration.

 

The situation was made worse by the high number of people, around 1,000, who came to watch the senatorial elections. The observation rooms were too small to fit everyone. The EC's promised live feed was supposed to rectify this issue, but its failure only escalated the problem.

The Prayut nominated EC clearly understands democracy. That's the problem. Must be avoided if they don't want early retirement.

May the EC also be criticized for any involvement in senatorial elections that doesn't involve election by the Thai electorate? Or that the EC incorrectly uses the term "election" that is actually a selection process - similar to a Chinese Communist Party Standing Committee selection process for members of the Politburo?

Personally I think there should be live-streaming of major Constitution Charter cases, ie., banishment of the MFP, removal of the PM.

This incredibly corrupt agency would not want people to see what goes on behind closed doors. Easy to make an election promise. Not so easy for them to do what they actually promised.

It was ludicrous to expect then to Livestream the election. How could they fix it if everyone could see?
