4 hour immigration queues are not the norm at all - I challenge anyone to honestly comment that they have been stuck in an Airport Immigration Queue in Thailand for 4 hours...

Ive done  USA, UK and Aus this year.

None more than an hour depart and arrive at swampy.

  • Well in that case let's not forget how lucky we are that there is no shortage of road deaths. Thailand is number one in the world in fact. 60+ per day on average. Hub of road carnage. Be good or be go

If you set down roots and have a house and land (in my wife's name but goes to me for life under a Usufruct if she should expire before me, plus the land deed in that case will be held by my Thai son with whom I get along well):

  • Very low property taxes.
  • No inspectors and regulators or special permits to build on your own land.
  • The government for the most part stays out of your personal affairs as long as you don't break laws.
  • Fewer laws to break compared to your average Western country.
  • If you break a law - money talks.
  • Hot women!  (oh you already noted that) <laughs>  (I'm old, and married, but I'm not dead yet)

Oh, and food prices as compared to the West.

For local fruits, produce and even meats like pork and chicken, if you shop at a local open-air markets food is still very affordable.  Like, really affordable. If you cook for yourself and know how to shop.

And if you live in a small village like I do, the prices at local one-item restaurants are still the same - 20 to 25 THB for a plate of whatever they are serving.  The further you get away from the village level, the more expensive.  Amphur 40 to 45 THB.  City center of the province 50 to 55 THB.  A city like BKK and even Chiang Mai - it's just getting stupid, so best to live out in the rice fields of rural Thailand.  But still - compared to the West?  A plate of mix vegetables with chicken over rice in Chiang Mai: 60 THB.  The same dish in America?  $10 / ฿360 THB or 6 times the price.  Same dish out here in the rural boondocks?  25 THB.  So that dish in America?  14 times the price.  I really wonder sometimes why foreigners want to crash the gate at the US southern border to live in Expensiveville USA.  <headshake>

As you are one of the grade A1 trolls on this thread...     your comment renders completely insignificant, even when attempting to pull pull of a Noel Coward impression 'dear fellow' - which just doesn't work for halfwitted bogans...

8. Farangy fruitcakes to deal with.......😕

Do you think that someone who repeatedly refers to foreigners as 'farangy' appears well adjusted?

It's probably best for you to not throw stones here, lest the spotlight fall on you.

NowNow, let's not be childish over my word for people like you....😬

Plus, I don't need your farangy advice, either, as the spotlight is always on me...........:guitar:

Best thing about Thailand

Meeting all those negative miserable people, who once came to paradise, complaining about anything and everything, make my life feel great.

Annoying when they start whining about how bad Thailand is, and how stupid Thais are, and my wife  sit next to me. Sometimes their wife or gf sit there to, and they start their rant.

Why is it so many negative people here? Should be your next thread Bob

Anywhere can be if you let it I guess, but I find the west especially plain. No magic.

Yep, this is very common practice, the silly farang in here are digging there head in the sand trying to say this isn’t a thing

Agreed - but I'd argue to a lesser degree than our home countries.

The risk of being involved in a violent confrontation here (i.e. getting mugged or into a fight) is less than that in many of our home countries.

Additionally, the foreigners who do get into conflict here, usually bring it upon themselves.

Not sure I agree with this, Thai people don’t seem to like farang.. just the money and who can blame them really with the poor attitudes most farangs have

I have seen plenty of aggression towards farangs almost daily

I like the availability anything and everything delivered to your front door!

6. Drunk driving is tolerated/easy to do.

You should have been here a couple of decades ago, the cops would go home at midnight, not a cop to be seen until the sun came up.

Years ago, I remember we were out drinking on the dark side, doing the naughty bar crawl around the lake, it was late afternoon, we stopped at an intersection, my mate dropped off his Mio, p*ssed, a cop on his bike stopped and helped my friend back on his bike.

We decided to go home, too drunk to ride.
