Querentino_Spaghettino Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 My car is approaching 8 yrs old and I noticed the headlights glass (or plastic I suppose), is going like a bleached yellowy color ? Is there any way of getting them back to clear or will I need to buy new ones? Any tips or suggestions please?
pgrahmm Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Yes, there are compounds to take the yellow off the plastic lenses.....Big C, Lotus, & auto supply shops should stock.... Some report that a brush & toothpaste works.... I had mine done at a car wash place that charged 300฿ to remove the yellow stain....Took them about 10-15 minutes by hand..... 1

Brush & toothpaste might not do the job. I've heard that they sand the lights first, and then polish it with some compound. Just an example down below. Best is to give a professional IMHO
0ffshore360 Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Probably the most painless way is to get it done in a Service Workshop. But be aware that unless a UV blocking coating is applied they go yellow again quickly. New units have that but it does also deteriorate.
NoDisplayName Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Cut a lemon in half, add a heavy coat of baking soda to one half, scrub one of the lights for ~5 minutes. Rinse. Tough remaining spots can be tackled with a dish scrubber with toothpaste and baking soda. 12-year-old Hilux, 400,000 km........... 1
Raindancer Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 You would be surprised how WD 40 removes and restores fading headlights. Don't use a harsh cloth or the like. Just spray it on and rub continuously. Then repeat. Or, as one member suggested, a local carwash/ local worksop could do it for a couple of hundred baht.
