All 'foreigner share condos' are not 'worthless'. Good grief. What have you been smoking? But, if that's the ridiculous case, would someone please send me all their supposedly 'worthless' foreign quota condos!? Please! I won't hold my breath. Unless we decide to sell, my Thai spouse will inherit our center city, high-end Bangkok condo, about a minute's walk to the Phetchaburi MRT station--a very desirable area, and getting more desirable. The Mormons just built a spectacular church and headquarters for southeast Asia right across the street and the Singha Complex nearby is a big asset, too. Great area, with a number of nice, private schools and one of Bangkok's best hospitals nearby. Easy walk to the Airport Rail Link when we travel. I can assure you this foreign quota condo is not worthless. With the company crackdown, I think you'll find that foreign quota condos are going to be attracting a lot more interest as many foreign buyers pivot from company houses to condos where their name is right on the chanote. As I keep telling KH, selling an inherited condo is one option but it is certainly not the only option. Instead of selling, a spouse could rent the unit out and produce income. My spouse's Bangkok relatives all have rental property and do this. Another option would be continuing to live in the property, with much less money going out each month than renting something similar. If spouse goes the selling route, he'll net at least 6MB, probably more. How does that translate to 'worthless'? If he banks the 6MB, he could draw out 60,000 baht a month for more than 8 years, spending part of the 60,000 baht for monthly rent. Getting by on 40,000 baht a month would last 12.5 years. With both options, if he continues to work the condo money will last even longer. Again, how exactly is that 'worthless'? Another option would be to bank half and spend the other half on a smaller condo. Good to have options.
