Rent payments paused for over 2,000 vendors for three months

The Ministry of Commerce has paused the collection of monthly rents from over 2,000 food and goods vendors for three months. This move is part of the government's plan to boost the economy. The Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, stated that this initiative is to support people and small businesses during these challenging times. About 2,083 vendors will be positively affected by this scheme, according to Phumtham.

 

The Minister encouraged other ministries and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the body responsible for the Chatuchak markets, to adopt similar measures. The Commerce Ministry has told its regional offices across the country to host markets where reasonably-priced items can be sold to locals. This project will commence on August 20, and the markets could be set up in any location that works well for sellers and customers alike.

 

Phumtham also noted that he has asked the Defence Ministry to use military trucks to sell essentials and other goods in remote regions. He mentioned that these steps are in anticipation of expenditures related to the "Digital Wallet" scheme, which is anticipated to commence in the fourth quarter of the year.
