Does Thailand actually have General Practitioner doctors in their hospitals ?

Recommended Posts

In my experience it's not like Australia where I can go and see a doc and say (for example) I have a problem with a rash, blood sugar and a bad hip and the guy will manage what he can and send you to a specialist if necessary.

Instead it's more like the initial doc will not be interested and just forward you to 3 different departments and you're in for 3 or 4 different fees instead of one.

Thanks mate - much appreciated.

Sorry for not answering earlier. Not 100% on this, but I believe his clinic is close to Soi 15 Sri Chan Road. It is also a dental clinic which his wife runs, and as far as I know, the only one along that stretch of road. Green and white painted front, or it was last time I saw it.

Never had that problem with a government hospital, first visit is normally a bag full of pills, then told to go back on the day the specialist is there, normally around a week later. I guess you work in a Private Hospital.

I have had the pills treatment but it's usually try this see me in 2 weeks and then the referral

I think Be Well in Hua HIn introduced the more European way of primary care. Their GP's went to Europe to train on the model more effectively. There's good reviews coming from there too. Perhaps a model that will be adapted more over the future?

As long as they are there, I am affiliated to them through an annual contribution or so it is called, membership.
Am very satisfied with their expertise and very helpful, yet I experience a slight Thai indifference despite the Dutch manegement

It does seem as if Hua Hin Hospital (the local government hospital) is moving towards a GP type model.

Each of the last 3 times I've been there (and each time for different conditions) they've told me I have to see a "general doctor" first and that doctor then referred me to the specialist for the type of medical condition I was complaining of.

 been there..

if you pay for the  V.I.P.   foreigner visit ,   you are off to the  5th floor to see a  General Practioner 10-15 min..    who goes over everything with you then directs you to the necessary specialist    I was wheezing and producing massive amounts of fluid

I went and had a chest X Ray, saw the pulmanologist, the otolaryngologist( itchy ears ), a lung/breathing therapist, and  a blood test then back to the GP   all in rapid fire no waiting  approx 3 hours and total bill amounted to  $65 US dollars

turns out I was having an allergic reaction ..   and the culprit was cashews that were roasted by a coffee shop ( that took a few days to figure out)
