Trump Rapid Back-Track & Confusion Now Say He Will Uphold Florida 6 Week Abortion Ban

Former President Donald Trump has made headlines once again with his shifting stance on Florida’s controversial six-week abortion ban. On Friday, Trump stated he would vote against a ballot measure that seeks to repeal the state’s restrictive abortion law, a day after suggesting he might support the measure to repeal it. His remarks have stirred confusion and backlash from both sides of the abortion debate.

 

 

Trump, who has previously criticized Florida’s abortion ban, told Fox News on Friday, “I think six weeks, you need more time,” signaling disapproval of the existing law. However, he quickly pivoted, describing Democrats as “radical” and repeating false claims about late-term abortions, which he has frequently used in his rhetoric. He emphasized his opposition to abortions up until nine months, stating, “So I’ll be voting no for that reason.”

The ballot measure in question would legalize abortion in Florida until fetal viability, a medical term generally understood as the point at which a fetus could survive outside the womb, around 23 or 24 weeks into a pregnancy. Trump’s comments about voting “no” have put him at odds with abortion opponents who had initially supported him, especially after his earlier suggestion that he might favor repealing the six-week ban. During an interview on Thursday, Trump seemed to signal support for the ballot measure, stating, “I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks.” Following backlash, his campaign issued a statement clarifying that Trump had not definitively stated how he would vote, and had only reiterated that he believes the six-week limit is too restrictive.

 

Trump’s position on abortion has evolved numerous times over the years, leading to ongoing uncertainty about his true stance. He briefly considered endorsing a nationwide 15-week abortion ban but later shifted his position in April, declaring that decisions on abortion regulations should be left to individual states. Since then, he has repeatedly taken credit for his role in the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, calling it “a beautiful thing to watch” as states impose their own abortion restrictions.

 

Vice President Kamala Harris, responding to Trump’s Friday comments, sharply criticized him for his stance. “Donald Trump just made his position on abortion very clear: He will vote to uphold an abortion ban so extreme it applies before many women even know they are pregnant,” Harris said in a statement, underscoring the contentious nature of the debate.  

Trump’s unpredictable positions on abortion continue to draw mixed reactions, highlighting the ongoing national divide over the issue. As states like Florida grapple with defining their own abortion laws, Trump’s evolving rhetoric adds to the broader political and social implications of one of the most polarizing issues in American politics.

Watching him melt down has been so much fun. He is utterly desperate now. He is flailing and Harris has got his number. Running against an intelligent woman of color is his kryptonite. 

 

If Trump and Vance went home, locked themselves up, and did not say anything, or appear again until the election, they would have a better chance of winning. Otherwise, they shoot themselves in the foot daily, as they are both horrendously poor candidates and campaigners. And Vance really needs to avoid donut shops, and Trump really needs do avoid all contact with the military. They despise him, for many good reasons. 

 

As it stands now, I do not see them getting elected, thankfully. Anyone but Trump.

JD Vance shot down a bill guaranteeing access to IVF earlier this year. He now have to justify how Trump's new IVF proposal fits with his previous stance on religious liberty. The 2 top guys on the ticket seem to keep undermining each other. Disaster looming with this kind of conflicting messaging and countless flip-flopping on abortion position.

Some of these anti-abortion groups (e.g. Susan B. Anthony) have threatened to sit-out this election if Trump wasn't more vocal on supporting their agenda.  And of course, we all know Trump has no backbone so he'll cave to appease his core base.  But at the same time, he'll be saying to a different audience that he supports reproductive rights....which is the exact opposite of what he's saying about the Florida bill.  One would have to be stupid beyond words to believe anything Trump says.
