What’s the best area in Thailand for expats to settle for long-term living?
The answer is quite simple and best described by Aussie crooner Kevin Wilson when he sang the immortal words "But me new method is, you just cut through the <deleted>. And get down to the goodies straight off:" Inotherwards. Soi 6.......... -

Agreed. We're also getting quotes for installation only. We'll likely go that way. -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
So you're talking more like eight years from now. Good luck. I would welcome a more normal republican party but I think it's going to be harder than you think to de-maga-ize. It's bigger than Trump. -

Help me understand: Delegating devices to remain online when the grid goes down
Good point. I think we could exclude the pool pump, oven, EV charger, and possibly water heaters from the backup box. But I feel it would be reasonable to use the inverter/battery system for everything else, including AC since we generally only have one medium sized AC on in the house at any time, and no other devices use much electricity. -

Heatwave and Climate Change Puts Pressure on Thailand
For the record, Bangkok has been perfectly typical. Typical temps, typical rainy season. We enjoyed a short and not especially hot season. What was abnormal was no cold weather .. none. Rain and stickiness aside I think BKK weather quite good last few weeks. Some very lovely mornings. I realize BKK ain't Thailand, but there it is. Green washing hysteria. -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
President Harris in November, Trump in courtrooms in 2025, and there are many reasonable educated Republican candidates for future elections....... -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
Ukraine has already lost the war. There is no way they can win back the Donbass and Crimea in a land war without drawing in NATO, and that means WW3. I want the dying to stop and the spending turned from futile fighting and dying, to reconstruction. The sooner the better. I don't celebrate Russia's win. But it's the reality on the ground. -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
As far as a much fairer peace deal, sadly Ukraine might need to do give up lands permanently to Russia but for that to happen they need something very big in return -- EU and NATO membership. -

Australian Aged Pension
Agree, call the older Australians line (part of Centrelink) 132300 and get a clear answer. If you feel the officers answer was confusing then tell the officer you're confused and ask him/her to claridy. If you're not convinced you're getting an answer specific to your questions then wait a while and call again. 99% chance you'll get a different officer. -
