The Sawangjit Sisaket Thammasathan Foundation's rescue unit received an urgent request for assistance, at approximately 13.30 on September 2, in retrieving the body of a deceased man who had tragically fallen into a charcoal furnace. 

 

The victim, a 51-year-old Thai male, was found near Sisaket Rajabhat University. He had been working alone at the furnace and at sometime, for an unknown reason fallen in.

 

 

A friend passing by noticed that his motorcycle was parked as normal, but he was missing. Upon inspection he found the badly burnt body lying on top of the hot charcoal, inside the furnace, but could not reach him due to the heat and roof covering.

 

Volunteer rescuers from Sawangjit Sisaket had to smash the roof off the furnace and then cool down both the body and charcoal, before a responder could climb inside and recover the body.

 

The victim’s body was transported to the forensic department at Sisaket Hospital, so that an autopsy could be carried out.

 

The authorities are carrying out an investigation of the incident, but don’t believe this was a crime, but possibly a tragic accident or the victim had suffered a medical event.

He may just as easily have suffered a medical seizure of some kind, stroke or heart attack.  Its an unprofitable speculation point.  The poor old chap is dead, end of. 

Inhaling charcoal generated Carbon Monoxide has become a very popular method of suicide in Asia.

 

Possible accidental/deliberate inhalation of CO had something (everything?) to do with the poor chaps death.

 

Unfortunately rural/agricultural workers in many countries frequently work alone and their difficulties/accidents/misadventures go unnoticed until they don't phone or don't come home.
