I can't see it. I don't think immigration has the staff. If I were in charge I would require a TIN filing for visas, unless you can prove you were in the country less than 180 days.

The Thai government has plenty of computers and people that know how to use them. But yes, your second consecutive TM47 should trigger an automatic TIN request.

that (TM47) won't work, because someone can leave before reaching 90 days and reentry thailand again ...

however, if the TRD do start strictly enforce the tax lawn on foreigners, they will not let you fool them ...

True, but that would not eliminate the need to file.

And if you are over 180, pay up.

Yes.  "Something" will need to be paid.

What we don't know, is how they will be calculating, how they will be collecting, how much will need to be paid, and the punishment for non compliance.  More will be revealed early 2025.

What we do know for 100% is, if you are inside Thailand for less than 180 days per calendar year, this policy does not apply to you, and you have ZERO tax liability as you are a non resident of Thailand for tax purposes.  For some, they may not only give them peace of mind, but also be financially beneficial.

Has this thread been rebadged and now know as the Heineken thread? Jeeze dude!!!

That's the pot calling the kettle black.

YOU are the most prolific poster on ALL of these tax threads.

Even on this thread you are leading with 16 posts?  You are in the Top 4 posters in the majority of the tax threads.

Talk about hypocritical.

Jeeze dude, if you are going to make an allegation, at least check your facts first, then again, I've found most of your posts to be just as inaccurate.    :cheesy:

Agreed. but those people are not here. The people who have the problem are the ones paying no taxes anywhere. Sorry, time to chip in.

"What is your reasoning behind this?"
Fairness - across all aged expats with a valid and suitable visa extension is certainly an important consideration. Equality - ensuring that all retirees or married couples aren't unfairly disadvantaged based on arbitrary distinctions like type of visa.

"If you have an LTR, should not be a concern for you."
You are completely out of context, and who are you to judge what I should or shouldn't do?

"If you do not have an LTR, then apply for one, if you qualify."
Whether or not I have a LTR or qualify for one is not the issue.

"Otherwise, remember that “you get what you pay for"."
Your condescending remark is entirely out of line and inappropriate.

Fairness and equality - good luck in finding your socialist utopia.  Why are you unfairly disadvantaged?  You have the same opportunity to apply for an LTR as anyone else.  Apparently, you chose a different visa. Only yourself to blame

Who will ask this question, when, and where, and what enforcement may follow?

Not saying it can not / will not happen, because as I have said, it's going to be funny in 2025 with all these foreigners having 800k in the bank, but nothing else  appearing to be flowing through their bank account.

Just interested in how you think the Thai authorities will go about it.

The tax man will ask.

Some of you are forgetting that some visa types in Thailand demand financial sustainability. They literally ask you to prove THAT YOU have an income. NOT YOUR WIFE.

I genuinely think that hasn't occurred to some of after reading this thread.

How did you arrive at this conclusion, and what makes you think I was referring to myself?

That's the 65k baht a month method.

The 800k baht method generally means you use some / all of the 800k, and top it up near extension time.

Very funny if the account shows a solid 800k, with no out goings and no in comings, and you are still living here.  If so, question, what law have you broken?

Ahhhh, tax evasion I hear some saying.

Tax evasion, or tax minimization?  Might be some interesting scapegoat falang legal cases in the media next year.  It's going to be entertaining.

Those people are here, just not here for more than 180 days.  Simple.

I was given a one year extension on my retirement visa today.

A tax ID was not mentioned, although I did submit a photocopy of my pink Thai ID card.

What would be the point......

Many people may have a tax id (from reclaiming tax withholding on bank interest for example) but tax returns based on the changes are not due until January 2025 earliest....

Thanks anyway for the confirmation
