Pattaya Steps Up Security at National Sports Centre with CCTV Plan

In a move to bolster security, Deputy Mayor Kritsana Boonsawad announced the installation of CCTV cameras at Pattaya’s National Sports Centre on Soi Chaiyaphruek 2. Unveiled during a recent city council meeting on September 11, the initiative aims to enhance public safety by closely monitoring the area.

 

Deputy Mayor Kritsana proposed allocating funds from the 2025 fiscal budget for the CCTV project, which received fast approval from the council. The initiative is grounded in the Pattaya City Administration Act 1999, ensuring legal backing for deploying surveillance measures to safeguard residents and visitors alike.

 

This CCTV rollout is only a part of Pattaya City's larger effort to modernise infrastructure ahead of the December 2025 opening of a 20,000-capacity stadium. The new stadium, expected to host global concerts and sports events, is seen as a significant boost to local tourism and the economy. Mayor Poramet highlighted the progress, noting that construction is ahead of schedule and emphasising the need for continued government support for future expansions.

 

 

 

 

However, not all projects are progressing smoothly. The renovation of the Pattaya Youth Centre on Soi Thepprasit 9, intended to become a multifunctional hub for music, sports, art, and performance, faces notable delays, causing concern among city officials, including Deputy Mayor Kritsana and Chairman Visan Petchtrakul.

 

As Pattaya fortifies its venues with enhanced security and upgraded facilities, the city’s emphasis remains on ensuring a safe and vibrant environment for its residents and visitors.

Having people monitor cctv feeds falls into the law of 'rapidly' diminishing returns. The person needs to be well trained and not have too many screens to watch or they will miss a lot. Distractions and the need to perform other tasks also diminishes their effectiveness. There are many very effective computer based analytics systems that can monitor effectively. 

So the choice is, Somchai the cheap local security guard or an expensive cctv analytics computer system.

Nah, just used as evidence after the fact

They have CCTV cameras all over Pattaya.  They have had no effect on the numbers of daily casualties.  They are only consulted AFTER an event so will NOT improve safety.  The cameras are just ornamental and a nice little earner for the supplier/installer who are no doubt related to someone on the council.

Is it really finished?  20 years it has beem a monumental whale of source of money for every mayor of Pattaya. They have taken money year after year from this project 125 million to do Beach Rd, then another 125 for traffic lights pedestrians, will the CCTV, be the last

Move on to the youth facilty they already screw that up how does one tear it down first then have no money to renovate!🤑
