Trump Declines Further Debates with Harris as Election Nears

Former President Donald Trump has made it clear that he has no intention of participating in another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris before the upcoming election. In a social media post on Thursday, Trump announced, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE,” effectively closing the door on any further face-offs between the two candidates.

This announcement comes despite Harris's assertion that the candidates "owe it to the voters" to engage in another debate. Speaking at a campaign rally in Charlotte on Thursday, Harris emphasized the importance of addressing key issues in another debate. “I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate. Because this election and what is at stake could not be more important,” she stated. Harris highlighted her focus on issues that matter to Americans, including reducing the cost of living, supporting small businesses, protecting reproductive rights, and ensuring national security. In contrast, she accused Trump of failing to address the needs of the American people, claiming, “it’s all about him, it’s not about you.”

Trump, however, has defended his performance in the previous debates, despite reports that some of his allies and campaign aides privately admitted the outcomes were less favorable than they had hoped. Following the Tuesday debate, Harris’s campaign immediately called for another debate, while Trump questioned the necessity of a rematch, asserting that he had won the first two rounds. Nevertheless, polls suggest that the general public perceived Trump as the loser of the debate.

In several posts on Truth Social, Trump has continued to insist that he emerged victorious from the debate and has criticized ABC News, the network that hosted the event. While his campaign has encouraged others to publicly declare his dominance in the debate, there are private acknowledgments within his team that it was not his strongest showing. During the debate, Harris repeatedly challenged Trump, even mocking the crowd sizes at his rallies and suggesting that his supporters often leave early out of boredom. Trump responded by defending his rallies and reiterating a false claim about immigrants in Ohio, a rumor that local officials have already debunked.

Interestingly, despite his refusal to engage in further debates, Trump’s campaign had initially expressed interest in another debate, with spokesman Brian Hughes mentioning that they had hoped for an event on NBC News later in the month. Following the last debate, Trump’s confidence appeared high as he skipped the post-debate "spin room" where candidates typically address the press. However, after this most recent debate, Trump did visit the spin room, a move that some interpret as an indication that he believed Harris had performed well.

Meanwhile, Harris has sought to build momentum from her debate performance by campaigning in key states. On Thursday, she introduced a new slogan, “A New Way Forward,” during her rally in Charlotte, emphasizing her vision for a "new generation of leadership" that she argues is needed to move the country beyond the divisive politics of the Trump era. Despite her efforts, polls indicate that Harris faces challenges in presenting herself as a candidate for change, given her role as Vice President under President Joe Biden.

In Charlotte, Harris underscored her message of optimism, vowing to improve the lives of everyday Americans and restore hope, contrasting it with Trump’s more negative outlook. The rally was marked by strong visuals, with large signs displaying her new slogan, “A New Way Forward,” flanked by giant American flags and patriotic decorations. The predominantly female audience, many of whom wore green stickers with the message “We’re not going back,” signaled a continued commitment to the issues Harris has championed throughout her campaign.

He should accept another debate and announce in his opening speech that he is not running.

Because the more people see her, the more they like her. Can't say the same for the other guy.

Because he knows he'd get creamed again.

Another debate may be his best chance to win, but he knows he just can't compete with VP Harris in debates.

I have mixed feelings about this.

If there was another debate perhaps he might have a good night and have a typical more even performance. Given his greatly lowered expectations now, that could be spinned as a big win.

On the other hand, it's quite likely he'll change his mind if he sees his polling drop dramatically.

Good decision, IMO. No need to give her more publicity.

After the first debate he needed already new Underpants.

What actually should be done is for the GOP to drop Trump. He is old and struggling to be normal. His chance in November is fading and will bring down the down-ballot election contests with him. The House is very likely to swing to the Dems and the Senate is in a tight race leaning blue.

in your opinion!

Trump is popular despite how much you and the rest on here try to deny it. he got 11+ million more votes in 20, than 16,  even more than the holy Obama ever got. i think after 2020 his voter will be out in force as i expect many feel they were cheated.

He still lost to Biden by about 7 million more popular votes. Just his loyal supporters may not be enough for him to win considering the energy and massive funds that the Harris/Waltz team has.

He did received a warm reception at the fire station but outside  New Yorkers just gawk and were icy to him.

Gosh.  Here's a novel thought.  Why don't Repubs let the voters decide?  Unlike the Dems.  Remind me, how many primary votes did Harris get?  You can add in 2020 primary votes if you'd like.

yes, exactly, nobody voted for her, she was Thrust into the spotlight after Bidens cognitive decline was too obvious to hide,  it would have been a 'bloodbath' for the Dems if he stayed. so massive panic and scramble ensued...... Install Harris!

The clue is in who is speaking. When his lips move they are often lies. I'll wager he's planning another debate. He'll lose that one also.

Republicans will have to coalesce with Trump as they simply don’t have any alternative. Dem still belong to a party where free speech and opinion are possible. Biden stepped down accepting the opinions of many well meaning colleagues. Party protocol nominated Harris and it has been brilliant since her nomination.

And you're not concerned at all that 6 or 7 people decided in some backroom meeting who was going to be their candidate?  Doesn't sound like democracy to me.

I certainly hope so, if only to mock posters that reference underpants and such like nonsense.

Those additional votes will be from all the illegal immigrants he allowed in.

Bit perplexed that he has declined another debate.......having wiped the floor with Harris (as predicted on here) and won every poll after the debate that asked who won?......you would have thought he would be mustard-keen to give her another drubbing.......very strange?

She received the majority of delegate votes and not from 6 to 7 people. Maybe you can tell us more who these 6 to 7 people are to establish some credibility to your wild claim.

Even if that were the case she still has to be voted into power by some 150 million voters (more now that Taylor Swift has encouraged younger voters to take part).

Quick.  Name someone alive today that has had more impact on the world than Musk.

Just a couple of examples...  Electric cars were dead in the water until Musk got involved with them.  Starlink can make the difference in who wins and who loses a war.

And you're worried about 6 or 7 people installing Harris as a candidate????????

Musk can't launch nuclear missiles. The idea that she can terrifies me.

President Joe Biden is frustrated that Barack Obama wouldn’t tell him to his face that he should leave the race. He’s angry with Nancy Pelosi and views her as ruthless for ushering him out the door. And he’s still miffed at the role Chuck Schumer played, too.

There's 3 of the 6 or 7 names.  And an admission that he "volunteered" to step aside under duress.

If he agreed to do anything against his will, it probably goes to prove he shouldn't have been in the job anyway. Letting Pelosi bully him is just pathetic.
