That looks terrible for Kodi. If using Kodi set it up to display media artwork and synopsis for each movie or TV series.

Don't be so arrogant and presumptuous. It's up to the individual to decide, not you.

I don't want media artwork for those files.

I have that in another section.

@tomgreen needed a solution to their quest, rather than to read about the idiosyncrasies of individuals in unrelated matters.

Your app idea doesn't work for them. Why are you still pushing it?

The CX File Explorer App would work beautifully for them. It would be much better than Plex or Kodi for a beginner. They just need to get an android box, easy to do.

Well, you have to add all the files to the Kodi app, if you have thousands of films it takes time. You have to set up the file sharing on the pc and add Kodi as a source. Kodi wasn't originally meant to stream from pc to tv, it was media player for the Xbox. I like it better than Plex I woudn't say it's a breeze to use or set up.

No you don't. You can just add the folder and your done. You can go out to eat. No need to sit there, so you don't lose any time.

What's with all of your negativity anyway?

Or, you get the CX File Explorer app and you don't have to bother with any of that. You just go straight into your laptop storage.

A perfect solution.

It doesn't work. Get over it. It was a useless suggestion then and is still a useless suggestion now. Android is not involved in any way. None.

You set up File Sharing(SMB) on the Mac: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh17131/10.15 or Linux: http://www.samba.org/ and then add the Network Location within KODI: https://kodi.wiki/view/SMB

or choose from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby.

So from the 4 x HDs with old stuff, what criteria do you use to decide what to watch.

I have IPTV system with more Movies and Series than I could watch in my lifetime, 16 hours a day. 7 days a week.

And I decided it looks terrible. Deal with it. Kodi is designed to be used for multimedia and not as a file explorer.

It's a screenshot from the Internet and posted solely to inform @Cameroni that you don't have to get into anything complicated in order to simply play files on your TV that reside on another device. I just showed how the file list can present itself. Absolutely no need to have all the artwork and metadata downloaded to KODI, for your own files sitting on a laptop, unless you actually want to create a multimedia library.

The amount of people who post here solely to antagonise and argue is somewhat of an eye opener. Including those who really have nothing to contribute at all. One pushing IPTV. Another an Android box, (expressly against the criteria given) and a File Explorer and now you insisting that unless it's organised as a full multimedia system, they should not be allowed to use KODI.

Your petty argument is in no way helpful nor relevant to the question being asked.

Is this the normal behaviour of the people here?

We only watch TV 1 hour at night, too busy during the day, But we have music playing most of the day,on the desktop I have a folder called TV TIMES, when one series finishes I edit it

TV TIMES

MONDAY - Doc Martin or -Murder most horrid & Keeping Up Appearances

TUESDAY- Kingdom or BERGERAC or JOHNATHAN CREEK

WEDNESDAY -VARIETY

THURSDAY- 2 X30 MIN COMEDY

FRIDAY BOON or UFO or LOTUS EATERS

SATURDAY MUSIC VIDEO

SUNDAY Traveling man or The Mrs Bradley Mysteries

DLNA can work, though probably easier to use Plex/Jellyfin/EMBY.

With your other suggestion, you would have to Cast from another device, since you cannot install VLC to the TV.

If you have an Android TV, VLC is available as an app. In one condo I have an Android TV with VLC reading videos off of NFS, and another residence has a smart TV getting videos from minidlna. I tried Jelllyfin but minidlna works better and Plex is just overkill.
